Hockey probably has the highest quality wikipedia articles of any sport. There must be some team of hockey-crazy wikipedians working on this stuff all the time.

Needs more about his mom's influence. & when he trains outside in the sand (instead of a traditional gym), does he do it barefoot or in shoes?

Does this explain everything?

"Off the ice, Filatov does not train in a traditional gym or weight room, preferring to run outside in sand and lift objects such as trees and boulders."

It very could

He was mystifying in Ottawa: not because he didn't work hard but he just wasn't good enough for whatever reason.

Too bad really.

Kovalchuk does this during his off-season training in Russia, probably not at the expense of regular gym training though.

Hopefully the article won't disappear when Hitchock asks it to play defense.

Who really wants to know that much about Filatov, though?

I saw Seth Jones mentioned in the "Did you know?" section about 2 weeks ago.

I know Trevor Linden and Joe Sakic have been the featured article of the day previously. I'm sure there have been one or two others as well. Strange to see Nikita Filatov of all players there though.

That's not really the point of the "Today's featured article"-thingy. It's meant to draw attention to some of the most well-written and informative articles on Wikipedia, not necessarily the ones that draw the most attention.

I'd presume most of the work on the Filatov article would have been done while he was still considered as a top prospect.

He's still very young and had a productive season in the KHL. I'm rooting for him. Even if not in the NHL he can still have a good career.

Steven Stamkos thinks his article is "a little weak."

Here's a list of Featured Articles (top-quality) and Good Articles (not quite top, but still pretty decent) that are considered hockey articles:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiped...gnized_content

Currently 34 Featured Articles and 171 Good Articles, plus 96 Featured Lists, just on hockey stuff. That doesn't include stuff nominated that should add to the totals.

This guy is finally regaining form after his disastrous time in the NHL/AHL. He is the poster boy for Russians regressing in their development by coming to North America too early.
