Biggest ironies you have seen in hockey

What are the biggest ironies you have seen during your time watching hockey? Ones immediately come to mind for me:

Jason Arnott scoring the cup clinching goal against the Stars, then getting traded to the Stars less than two seasons later.

Scott Stevens retiring due to a concussion.

Marian Hossa signing with the Red Wings because he thought they had the best chance at winning the cup, then losing to his old team that season.

Joe Sakic running over Scott Stevens (Game 7 of the 2001 SCF).

A team from Canada having a chance to win the cup 3 seasons in a row and end the drought of a Canadian based team winning it, only to lose to a Sunbelt region team in the SCF all 3 seasons.

Add your biggest ironies you have seen in hockey to this thread...

Alanis Morissette's contributions to what people think can be considered ironic.

She's Canadian, so I'm sure it can relate to hockey in some way.

Before becoming the GM of the Rangers, Glen Sather was quoted on saying:

"If I had the Rangers payroll, I'd never lose a game"

Gary Roberts leaves Carolina for Toronto because "I want to play for the Stanley Cup". The very next season the Leafs are bounced by Carolina in the ECF.

Yes, I know that I'm just throwing around the word, and that some of these are coincidence not ironies.

That time Bryan Marchment suffered a season ending knee injury.

Um, so I know people love making the Alanis Morrisette joke, but some of the OP's examples are actually irony.

One of them was irony. The other 4 were not.

Because he ended a couple other players' careers by giving them concussions.

And now the discussion degrades into an argument over the word irony

The ironic part about the song is there's not a lot of irony in the lyrics. Everyone seems to miss that. She's not stupid.

Does Chelios playing for Detroit count? I'm not sure myself.

So are you arguing that Morissette was actually employing some form of meta-irony where she was being ironic that a song named ironic didn't contain much irony in the lyrics and thus ironic was an appropriate name for it?
