This boards view on elite talent is ridiculous. They would rather pray for a goalie performance of a lifetime then get an all world talent.
Here's the thing many people don't seem to realize. I'll have to find the article later, but this is what it pretty much showed.
Teams that spend 45%-55% (I believe those were the numbers) of their cap on five of their players were MUCH more successful than teams that did not. It was something crazy like 15/16 teams that made the playoffs met that criteria, and the most teams that didn't were on the outside looking in.
GM's look for the talent first and worry about the cap situation later. There's always going to be cap floor teams that will take on a contract at the end of a players career.
I mean, it's not like this team could have used an elite sniper tonight on the final PP. It's not just Ovechkin, but just elite goal scorers and playmakers in general.
Edit: Here's the article that shows the teams that spend about 44%+ of their cap on five players. It's from 2010, but the point still stands.
Should we just change the thread title to what's going on with Ovechkin because it's been taken over with nothing but Ovie love for some reason.
There weren't really any other good games on today, and with the lack of scoring the Bruins have been demonstrating, when you see a player like him tearing it up, it's hard not to think about how this Bruins team could use a pure scorer.
