My guess this is what will take place.

Rivermen is the name of Langley's BCHL team, and I can't see them giving up that name after just switching over a few years ago.

If true, the Canucks finally owning their own AHL affiliate is even better news than the fact they're moving to Abbotsford as they now are in complete control over their prospects. Goodbye Don Levin!

So the thing about MG wanting to create his own circuit for prospects of western teams to play in could actually be realized here?

Very happy that the Canucks will *own* the team. This is super key.

Canucks owning their own development team is a massive gain for prospects.

This pretty much guarantees that all prospects with pro contracts will be placed in the AHL and given significant ice time.

This will be great for getting Grenier, Mallet and Myron into the lineup next year.

I don't think it guarantees anything, and it shouldn't.

IMO there is a fine line between gifting roles and ice time to young players and having them earn it.

We've seen young prospect AHL teams struggle over the years and losing isn't a great environment for development.

I think it's a positive for sure that we'll own our own affiliate, but I dont think they'll be guarantees either way.

I hope we continue to use Kalamzoo as well, some of these guys just aren't ready for the AHL.

^ Agreed. You want the control of ice time and roles for when it's needed - say when the coach goes overboard like Arniel was doing in riding one goalie into the ground - but I don't think it's a positive to have too many rookies in the lineup. Unless they're all really, really good or something.

Some of these guys, like Friesen and Myron aren't even ready to move up to the AHL permanently yet. Myron had a decent start but he's barely keeping his head above water in the E right now.

It also gives Gillis more control over who the vets are. If we have good young winger prospects he can target some quality AHL centres for them to matched with, no point just playing the centre prospects if they holding back the other players.

Yeah. As much as the Wolves right now have swung way too far to the other side of things, there are some prospects that just aren't ready for the AHL. Not ~14 guys like this year...that's not reasonable. But there are some.

But guys like Myron, Anthony, even Sauve for that brief stint after coming back from his car crash incident to get his conditioning back up, and Archibald to start this season probably benefited him...sometimes the ECHL is a valid option. But for a lot of guys, i really question how wise it is to have guys playing extended time there. It's a great league for getting big minutes in for 'fringe guys', but in terms of actual tutoring and teaching, the real learning and development aspects, i don't think it's a very good place to be.

But it would be a huge advantage to have greater control over what's going on down there in the AHL, and have less of our prospects relegated to the ECHL. We're also getting to the point where some of our more 'advanced' and 'experienced' prospects in the AHL are going on 3 years experience now. And at some point, those guys have to start becoming the 'veteran ahlers' that you support the younger guys with. Obviously sprinkling in a few true veterans and proven AHL producers here and there.
