Mark Barberio never rewarded

After winning the best defenseman award, the Norfolk team most valuable player and the Calder Cup you would think Tampa would have rewarded him with a couple of NHL games. It is not like Tampa is going to win the Stanley Cup this year. He may decide not to sign with Tampa next year.

Yeah I'm sure he's willing to give up the NHL to go to the KHL or Europe for the rest of his career just because he was passed over for the handfull of games left.

Easy guys, he/she made an account / came out of lurker-mode to share his/her insight. Maybe didn't realize how contracts work and what Restricted Free Agency means.

Before Guy was fired, the reported plan was to give Barberio (and Gudas) a few games.

Yzerman evaluated both Brian Lee and Marc A. Bergeron ahead of him this year. After signing Sustr from college, Yzerman rewarded him with 2 NHL games before sending him down to Syracuse. Message appears to be very clear. By the way, he becomes a restricted free agent after June 30th, does not mean he cannot go to Europe. Do not think he will play another year in the AHL.

Lee and Bergeron both had one way contracts so of course they were ahead of Barberio.

Barberio isn't the first prospect to go the length of his ELC and not get called up and he won't be the last. The design was to have him spend the year in Syracuse and have him push for minutes next year. And of course he can go to Europe but how many North American players go to Europe when they have an NHL suitor?

Going to Europe also puts another year between him and the NHL, if he isn't forgotten first.

Pretty sure he'll choose the AHL over Europe. Or maybe some other team will take a chance on him and offer enough for Yzerman to move him.

$75K playing in the AHL versus $500K in Europe What would you choose ? and how long is a professional hockey player's career? Tampa will need to give him a one way contract.

He'll get an NHL deal next year and play for the Lightning, I don't see what the issue is.

The Bolts Dmen have been unusually healthy this season. I'm sure it's frustrating for our young Dmen. Barberio, Korobov, Taormina, Sustr, Aulie, and Gudas all deserve some NHL games, six almost NHL ready guys. Some of them not getting some games in a shortened season isn't meant as disrespect, just a numbers problem in a very healthy, short, season.

Sustr is very different. Like JT Brown, Yzerman wanted to see where he was at in his development and gave him 2 games. Other than Tom Kurvers and our other scouts All yzerman had seen of him probably was during the summer camp. Yzerman knows what he has in Barberio. He watched all the Crunch games during the lockout and saw the playoffs with Norfolk last season.

He'll choose AHL. Absolutely he will. No question. He'll resign here 105095%. Yzerman is in charge. Prospects have great amounts of respect for him and how he handles their development. THis was one of the reasons Sustr decided to sign here knowing he would have to play a few seasons in the AHL. He's not going to run to Europe. Be patient. He'll get his chance.

Getting that 500k or holding out and getting millions eventually if he can wait? Relax brother, you are overreacting. Are you related to Barberio by any chance?

As others said before I doubt he goes to Europe and not many players can get 500k in Europe, neither Germany, nor Switzerland are paying that much and Sweden and Finnland don't pay that much as well. Onöypossinility is Russia and it's I doubt he gets 500k there without ever playing in the NHL before.

He was a 6th round pick, he knew he had a longshot chance to even get where he is now. His former teammate and 1st round pick Brendan Gormley still hasn't cracked the NHL. I'm sure he's not too worried.

So do we start Seth Jones on the bottom pairing or throw him in top minutes right from the start?

Am I missing something?

Aulie has played in 35 games this season. Gudas in 13. Taormina has just been called up and as mentioned Sustr got in a couple.
