Short term yes, long term it has too many negative issues. It reduces the post-Boyle blue line to being pretty crappy. The only way I keep him at forward is if he's so good there he forces us to keep him there. In that case we are looking at unloading one of our other top 6 and a prospect for what we'd hoped Burns would be when we picked him up.

I believe Demers could be good enough to be able to keep Burns there sometime soon ....but he probably forgot how to play hockey by now.

Burns as a player/coach is the next logical step.

Sure hard to argue with the start of it but if they're planning on him to be the future of the defense than I think every practice and game he isn't playing back there and learning from one of the very best in Robinson is a waste that can't be gotten back.

The real good thing about this is that from the way he played in the Kings game, you can tell he has his legs back. Still a top skater, still very physical, still has that shot. It's obviously a short term experiment.

I hate to ask you guys but I want to jump on Burns in my fantasy league if he's going to stay a forward. Would you drop Bouwmeester for him?

Appreciate it.

I don't think he will stay a forward. At least I hope he doesn't. I don't think anyone has any clue to be honest with you. Now run away before The Juxtaposer rails on you for not putting this in the "Fantasy Hockey Questions" thread!

WE HAVE A FANTASY QUESTIONS THREAD STICKY FOR PEASANTS LIKE YOU.

Seriously, I'd pick up Burns over Bouwmeester regardless.

IMO it's time to start transitioning out of this experiment. Burns for all the good he does, does not make the difference between our offense being elite or not. He does make the difference in our defense being elite. And we need to cultivate the areas of strength we do have.

Trying to put myself in T-mac shoes' here.

SJ has 8 defensemen who are NHL-capable. Boyle, Vlasic, Stuart, Burns, Demers, Braun, Irwin, and Murray. So if Burns plays as defense, that is just one more guy who deserves to be playing, who isn't playing.

If Burns plays as a forward, he is keeping someone like Kennedy or Galiardi out of the lineup. That is a win in the sense that you are keeping a player who doesn't deserve to be there out of the lineup. This is especially true with Havlat out and Clowe playing so poorly.

Just saying. I'd much prefer Burns as a dman, but I can see where Tmac is coming from. His forward group has simply underperformed...

Well I'd think Havlat's return would be the moment for this.

Getting someone undeserving out of the lineup on defense is more important than doing the same at forward. Douglas Murray has no place in this team's lineup and that is killing his partner which is more damage than having Kennedy or Galiardi in the lineup.

But..Murray blocks shots and stuff.

3 points in 3 is impressive, but lets get havlat back and go from there. Demers should be playing and we could at least lose the Murray-Stuart pairing before we declare the D unit a lost cause without burns. I don't think we'd be singing his praises back there either, he can be pretty boneheaded sometimes.

Right. But putting myself in Tmac's shoes'....he obviously think that Murray is #5-6 on this team...

Well, he is incorrect and has been incorrect since last season started. There are various thought processes that can account for why Murray is in the lineup. None of them make it the right decision.
