Ovy to Florida

Panthers get the star they need to sell tickets and a top line winger.

Caps get Gudbranson, Howden, and Florida's first rounder in 2013

Swap Huberdeau for Howden. Adjust accordingly.

No way Florida would do this. Ovis 9.6 cap hit for 70 points a year is a joke.

Florida wouldnt trade its first rounder this yr so thats the first problem in your proposal. Lets just stop there or some of us might get in trouble

Right first off that's not nearly enough for Ovie, Secondly there Is no way the Panthers take on Ovies cap they wont even resign Weiss for $5 Million and you think there going to take on ovies contract @ 9.6 Mil for about the next 8 years or so sorry It's not a happening. Florida Is pretty much gutting the team and In full rebuild mode I dont see Ovie being added and there Is no way he goes to a division opponent.

Knowing Ovie, I'm sure he wouldn't mind a little sunshine, beautiful beaches and women.

Both teams say no because for caps fans he is our franchise and for Florida fans they just look at his cap hit and his point totals of only 1 year in his career and ignore everything else.

Ovechkin proposals never work out.

This will be 3 straight years of less than 90 points and less than 40 goals. How exactly is that "only 1 year"?

The caps and panthers will be in separate divisions after realignment. Florida isn't taking on Weiss because he is injury prone. There are few if any UFA's they have to resign, which would give them more space for Ovie. I would say the caps would look to move him west before anything, but with realignment they lose the Panthers as a division foe.

Panthers will have Huberdeau and Bjugstad at centre for a long time, but they lack quality wingers. This trade solves that problem. For the Caps, they need depth all over and Gusbranson would be that marquee blue liner they lack. They would also have two top 5 picks in a deep draft. It always amuses me how each set of fans think a deal is ripping them off. You could rework this one a bit, but I don't see how anyone gets ripped off.

Caps fans are mad because even with the decline in Ovy's play, they think he is still worth more than 2 former first round picks and a top 5 pick.

Panther fans are mad because they dont think the team should give up a young defenseman with top pairing potential, a winger with 2/3rd line potential and a potential #1 overall pick for a guy whose play has declined in each of his last 3 seasons.

I really don't see how Ovie can be traded to anyone.
Unless he starts to rekindle his former greatness his cap hit and term just make him way too risky.

I agree with most of what you're saying here, but the bolded is just silly. GuDbranson is a very nice defensive prospect and all, but to say he's the marquee blue liner that they lack is ridiculous when you're talking about a team that has Mike Green, John Carlson, and Karl Alzner.

Salary cap? What is that?

Florida would rather just give the money to Gud, Hubs and Howden. Never mind the 1st.

Alzner is a good stay at home guy and he works well with Carlson. Green is declining and has never been particularly strong in his own end. Gudbranson projects as a number 1 defenceman. The caps also lack a solid prospect on the blue line right now. They really don't have much depth down the pipeline.

How about now hear me out on this one.... Florida uses said draft pick this year to take a guy like MacKinnon, Jones, etc who looks like a franchise player and sell tickets around them and keep all of the other pieces? Sounds good to me.

I say ,Yes! As great as Mikinnon might be, he'll never be Ovy. Ovy is a bonafied superstar who could help the likes of Huberdeau,Shore,Mueller, Versteeg, and Flash.
I like Guds but he hasn't really done much and id rather have Ovy.

Doubt it. Gmgm would want more. He would need to unless He wants a mob with pitch forks at his house.

Let's draw a parallel to Bure trade. A 28-year old elite russian sniper. Cap hit near 10M. Last three inexpressive seasons with previous team (I don't count Bure's 95/96 season missed through injury).
Bure: 204 games, 100G+101A, 201 points, nearly PPG.
Ovechkin: 185 games, 81G+92A, 173 points, nearly PPG too.
Very near premises.
Florida exerted salutary influence on Bure. Why can't it be the same with Ovi?
