I agree that is awful, but for the kings, not the flames.

But then again, you think Martinez has no trade value so...lol.

To be fair not like we can diminsh the 8th spot. Served the kings well last year.

Funny that A-Mart has no value.

Not really. Richards needed to go due to cap issues. He was not about to a UFA as well.

Iginla for Bernier makes sense to me.

Flames-wise? Bernier would be the goalie we need going forward. He'd be a key piece in "life after Kipper & Iggy".

We'd also (likely) finish in a position to draft Mackinnon or Barkov - which would also be HUGE for the team.
Barkov is goign to be the underated pick of this draft. I know he is on everyone's radar but I htink he should be in the conversation with Drouin for the 3rd pick.

not so much richards but Mike Smith being the next young starting goalie as well as Feaster making the trade

Who is he? I have no clue who he is and assumed off value as well, but that could be more about a lack of knowledge

Shouldn't the Kings be trading for a Dman?

I mean of course it would be nice to have Iginla but you already have Carter/Brown/Kopitar and a few others getting plenty of TOI. Iginla would basically be cutting into some of the pts those guys would put up anyways and raise it by a bit.

A dman on the other hand who can play top 4 mins would be of immense help to them.

How is this awful for the Kings? They get the missing piece in their top six and a major upgrade on defense for their backup goalie and a first in a weak draft.

Even if the Kings had their 2013 1st, I'd want it and Martinez for Giordano; if it's the 2014 1st, it'd take more for Gio alone. That leaves Bernier for Iginla, which is simply not enough in a seller's market where multiple teams will be bidding for his services.

True but I think Smith has shown that had Tampa put decent defense infront of him and given him patience he would have been the #1 that feaster was hoping to get. As much as I hate Smith I htink he has redeemed Feaster.

He will be a great replacement fro Gio if the flames trade him. Before I get roasted by flames fans i said "will" not is.
THe upside is he will cost less, and it will help reshape the culture in the flames room.

Regarding Martinez, how does a puck moving defenseman who played 15 minutes a night during our playoff run and was only on the ice for two goals against have no value?

I wouldn't want to trade the guy that's for sure.

Hmm, two way guy or a defensive D? He is obviously playing above his potential or does it look like he has solidified. Seems like a good piece.

IMO he is more useful defensively than being relied on as a point producer. However he was affective on the PP before getting injured this year, and is a good second unit PP guy that could develope into a first PP guy, or will provide a spark to a 1st unit if it is faultering.

A Mart is a hybrid. Solid PMD with excellent Ozone skills (has a great knack for knowing when to jump up into O) who is is also very good in his own end. He is already a solid #4 guy on the Kings but could arguably be seen as a developing #3. I don't see top pairing in him but he is very good today. I wouldn't want to move him at all but we are overloaded with young talented D and will have to do something.

Vounov and A Mart are solid and established. We also have Muzzin & Ellerby in the NHL doing pretty well for themselves with Muzzin right there at the top of the rookie D in most every stat. Then we have Deslauriers in the AHL just a step behind who could be with us as early as next season for his first call up if needed and Forbort and Gravel ready for the AHL next season along with a few others.

We are overloaded with talented young D for sure. What we need is a Willie M type on the team to keep the kids on the right path. We might have to move one of them to get him but make no mistake, A Mart is an exceptional young Dman who I would hate to lose.

Why would the Kings trade their potential #1 backup to a future division rival for a rental?

If Lombardi trades him in an Iginla deal, his presser should just be a quick one-liner:

Shop smart... shop A-Mart.

Man, LA would be a nasty team with the addition of Iggy. It looks like my fantasy team from 2008.
