Toronto Maple Leafs - New York Rangers

The Leafs are in dire need of a top 4 D-man to pair alongside Dion Phaneuf. The Rangers are a team that also might benefit from a minor shake up. I'm making this proposal not as a firm offer but something to consider for both sides and to consider any pluses or minuses as well.

Dan Girardi
Taylor Pyatt
2nd '13

Nikolai Kulemin
J-M Liles

Toronto's D looks much deeper and reliable on paper then, especially after Gardiner's arrival.

Phaneuf - Girardi
Gardiner - Gunnarson
Fraser - Franson

Losing Kulemin simply sucks but Girardi is a solid piece and fills a need for us. He can play the defensive style and is willing to put his body at risk in terms of blocking shots and stuff.

I'm not even a big Girardi fan, but this is scary bad for the Rangers.

not interested. I'd rather keep Girardi than getting Kulemin.

Absolutely. I think he's a little overrated but he's better than this. And the fact that we're adding on top of that

A potential early 2nd in a deep draft and Pyatt who has more goals than Kulemin.

All star D man, #6 in Norris voting last season + pick + top 6 LW for what again? Spare parts you don't need?

Here is a less insulting offer that the Rangers would still say no to
Girardi for Kulemin + Franson + first.

Top pairing all star RD are few and far between. When you are lucky to have one, you keep him unless you are overwhelmed by the offer.

Heh, Pyatt is more of a top 9 winger to be fair.

Liles for the 2013 2nd is probably fair value.

The trade is Girardi + Pyatt for Kulemin.

Ouch.

That is just plainly not going to happen.

I won't trade Franson right now for Girardi, let alone trading Kulemin + 1st along with him.

Based on your original offer, it doesn't suprise me. You are a poor judge of talent.

Good luck.

You shouldn't be making any more threads on here if that's the case.

Franson is playing very well right now, and I'm a big fan of his, but it sounds like you've never seen Girardi play.

The only thing that's not going to happen, is Girardi to Toronto for the crap you just offered. Franson + isn't enough for Girardi. Keep dreaming.

I think Girardi is overrated, and I think Kulemin is underrated, and yet I still believe that this proposal is atrocious.

Yeah.

Girardi has been up and down this year, but the Rangers can't do this proposal.

Franson++ would make a little sense, but Girardi definitely isn't available, so it's a moot point.

Also, re: not trading Franson for Girardi. That's crazy. Girardi plays 26 minutes a night and generally excels in those minutes. Franson plays extremely sheltered minutes. Solid offensive defenseman, but he's not a good defensive player. Girardi is, objectively, the better player. I don't know, maybe you really like Franson, but that's just crazy IMO.

Girardi for the guy in your avatar or bust. Maybe Reilly or Gardiner.

Even franchise players traded recently haven't garnered a package like that.

I atleast offered a top 4 D-man in Liles and a very good third liner with offensive upside.

And I have my reasons for not trading Franson for Girardi. I believe he has the potential to become a very good two-way D-man with added experience. He has a very good shot and offensive instincts also allow him to be a capable playmaker on the PP.

One has already achieved success as a defensive defenseman, but the other is 3 years younger and having a breakout season. So forgive me if I don't want to trade him for another D-man who is 3 years older.

A top 4 D-man? No top 4 D-man is a regular healthy scratch.

Girardi has been playing hurt since he took PK Subban's rocket in the ankle. He suited up and played next game!

We'd like to better our team and trading Franson who has quite possibly been our best D-man this season isn't the smartest way to go. Trading him for a deal involving Girardi is redundant from both sides so there is absolutely no rhyme or reason that we should be discussing who has the better value right now. I'll agree that Girardi is more proven, as he is 3 years older as well, and has had much more to show for in his career, but Franson is young and if he duplicates the year he's having right now again next season then you're also calling him a legit top 4 D-man. No point in trading these guys for each other.

And if people didn't see, I did say that the proposal is open to alteration.

If Kulemin + Liles doesn't work, propose what might.

Gardiner + Rielly + Kadri aren't really available as aren't Kreider + Stepan + Hagelin in any New York offers.

So players can't improve?

He was a healthy scratch under Wilson last year and he's found his game this season and has looked excellent.
