Wonder if Snow told him to sign before the deadline if you want to stay.

Very positive indeed

Hopefully the days of the Islanders being sellers is a thing of the past.

Seriously though, how positive a story would this be for the Isles when he didn't even want to come back to the states and play for the Isles in the first place.
I would be very happy if Visnovsky does re-sign. He's our best offensive threat on the blue line and it makes the Isles look good after all the crap that we've had to deal with surrounding him. The Isles handled the whole situation right, kept the high road.

Isles let him report late then let him go home for a few days. Maybe he feels they treated him right.

Wow... Big news.

Mark Streit - these are the biggest 3 games of your Islander career!

Viz might also feel like he owes them another year for everything that has happened.

Either way, I really hope this gets done.

The Isles handled it right and should get credit if Visnovsky is back in the fold. I hope we get good news about this very soon. It would be big to re-sign him before the trade deadline.

I wonder how dramatic the Streit contract situation would play out if Vis is signed first though.

I think you are right, although Viz signing might push Steit out as his trade value will likely never be higher. Would love to see them both stay, but Garth should listen for offers and if he can pull a 1st or legit 2C for Streit+, he might bite.

I know nobody would really want this, but if that does happen I can see Streit coming back as a UFA too.

Yes! He's been nothing but great since he got here. Completely forgiven, especially if he resigns

I would love to see Garth move Streit for a pick, then flip the pick with a little more for a defensive minded dman (Morris or Klesla maybe?) who is signed for next year.

we will be sitting here the coming off-season and wonder if viz' comments in the slovakian press are serious or whether he will report to isles training camp after all.

but he was definetly worth it. best d man on the island this year.

I see plenty of room for the both of them on this blue line. I hope the Islanders keep Streit as well. The defense continues to be the biggest weakness on this team.

Streit and Viz can be even better if the Isles can cut down their minutes by surrounding them with better defensemen.

I would have no problem with Streit and Vis both coming back. The problem would be if we didn't make any other changes to our blueline.

I still think Hjalmarsson would be a good target and that Chicago may be willing to move him for Carkner plus a good pick/prospect.

I want both Visnovsky and Streight re-signed. It's time to end the rebuild. I'd rather narrowly miss the playoffs with Streit and Visnovsky then set the ETA for contention back a few years.

Look at the UFA D-Men this offseason, and then try and imagine how many would seriously consider NYI offers. If Streit and Visnovsky are jettisoned, it's not like we could easily replace them with similarly competent veterans. I'd prefer prospects like Mayfield, Donovan and Reinhart fight for jobs with Hickey, Strait and Carkner and slot in behind Visnovsky and Streit then immediately be forced into top-4 minutes.

I agree. I just hope we take 4 out of the next 6 points so it can't even be a possibility to sell.

No team needing Mark Streit is going to trade back a #2C. Not unless we're adding a shipload more.

Lets also remember that the salary cap is going down after this season. Garf is a bargain shopper and he might be able to get some good bargains with some teams needing to unload to get under the cap.

I agree, which is why I said "Streit+". I think it would take Streit and a decent prospect depending on the length and $'s of the contract coming back.

The next thing Staples will be tweeting is Tim Thomas is coming out of retirement to help lead the Islanders to a Cup run in 2014, LOL! But all joking aside, love to see Vis back, hopefully a 2 year deal.
