Schedule / Backup Goalie

Was looking at the Isles schedule, and it gets pretty brutal leading up to the trade deadline...8 games in just 13 days starting next Thurdsay the 21st, five against teams in front of us.

It is pretty clear that Capuano doesn't trust anyone other than Nabokov in goal. It is also clear that Nabokov needs rest (he has played back to back days twice and gotten shelled twice).

It is also clear that this stretch will make or break the season.

So, what will/should the team do? Bring in another goalie? Roll the dice with Poulin? Get Nabokov on a steroid program?

funny you should post this.

I was thinking last night that they better give Poulin some work. This guy is clearly the next guy in line for #1 for the Isles, and having him sit on the bench for 5 of 6 games is not the way to prep him for success.

I get that Nabby is the #1 right now, but I would increase Poulin's game time.

But what the hell do I know.. Isles fans clearly aren't playing with a full deck.

They'll call DP up because he'll have some games under his belt.....if he's healthy.

If we're going to do a serious push for the playoffs, I really hope that we're going to trade for a good backup goalie. Maybe Elliot.

DP is done, and I hope that we wont see him in the NHL anymore, and I don't think Poulin is ready/good enough for the NHL.

If Poulin was ready he would have seen more ice time already. I like Poulin and wish the team was more stable so he could get a chance.

they should really be putting him in tomorrow night. if crappy can't trust him against an abysmal florida squad, when can he?

edit: especially when our next three are ottawa, montreal, and pittsburgh...

This.

They *really* need to take the bubblewrap off of Poulin and let him get a change to win, and Florida's the best time for it.

i agree with this...if we were healthy. Florida game seems more like a must win instead of a "lets get poulin some work" type game. I think KP has the ability to play here, its just a matter of him getting the confidence. Nabby could use a rest, but i dunno if now is the time. Nabs only had 18 saves last game, off of 3 days rest.

This....he played last night yes, but he also only faced 18 shots and rested 3 days prior....I think we run with hot Nabby just to secure the win

Ride Nabakov until he breaks then sigh Nicklas Backstrom in the off-season.

Or, from another school of thought, you load up when you have the the 'sure win'. To beat a team like Pitt, we need to play a full 60 minute, relatively mistake free game. We can very easily play very well and lose with Nabby in net. And if Poulin looks rusty against Florida and loses, that's a double whammy. We absolutely cannot lose to a team like Florida. Games against the Pens you are already marking as a loss and hoping for the best. Maybe great team defense can earn Poulin the win.

But against Florida, go all in when you got the nuts.

Speaking as a VERY former goalie, sometimes a challenge isn't a bad idea....

Killing Florida with Nabby and *testing* Poulin against Ottawa isn't the worst of ideas.....people can shine when you give them a few meters of trust, and that can go triple for a netminder.

Taking the sure win by denying the Panthers a chance to get their moxie back against a backup and giving KP the chance to show what he can do against the Senators isn't the worst idea in the world. It's a crapshoot, but one that could help the Isles put a little more confidence in a player who could become part of the solution.

Ride Nabakov unless he really needs a rest. We are in the playoff hunt, results matter right now more than development (unfortunately for Poulin).

They should play Nabby as much as possible whilst still in the playoff hunt, but if they are a three or more goals down pull him and give Poulin some ice time.

Stay with Nabby and let's break that (NHL 500) and move up the standings 12-12-3
