I've been seeing some of the comments about Richards on the regular forums-how on earth did he go from being a player that Burke "blew" his chance on (according to some posters) and the NYR winning the sweepstakes, to 2 seasons later and now talk of amnesty? Quite the fall-Richards IS good, has he just gotten complacent?

It then begs the question are Leaf fans feeling now they dodged a bullet?

Damn does frattin have a good shot. Hmm I was thinking of some defenders from the devils if possible.

Miikka Kiprusoff?

Just wanted everyone's thoughts on possibly acquiring Kipper for a playoff run. What would it take, would you want him here? I would. Career playoff SV % and GAA = .921 and 2.32. I'm on the Kipper bandwagon.

Gotta make the playoffs first and his numbers this season, .876 and 3.27 can easily do more harm than good.

Darn PK, you are too quick

playing on a joke of a team....he is healthy now. I wouldn't call Kipper washed up after 12 games this season.

I'd love to have him but you would have to move major assets for him. This would signal a full rebuild for Calgary so they would like be looking at a couple of gards, kadri, Reilly, a first rounder.

I would prefer pursuing kipper much more than Lu

Far too old at this point to fit in with the core of the team. Getting him wouldn't put us over the top or even make us a contender. Calgary would also want a pretty significant return in order to move him.

I would much rather stay the course with Scrivens/Reimer and if Nonis believes an upgrade is necessary, I hope he finds a younger alternative..

He won't go for peanuts.

This leads me to say, we don't want to be the pre-lockout/post-lockout Leafs by trading young assets for washed-up older assets, to simply make the playoffs... then have nothing left.

We're not winning the Cup this year. I'd rather not pay the price it would take to acquire a goalie who by all evidence, is (currently) not an upgrade.

I think people have said that he has become slow, and looking almost disinterested. Slow can come due to age, and can also be a side affect of being disinterested which could be because he already hit pay day. His points I have heard is more a result of others making something happen, not Richards playing well.

Yes we dodged a bullet and I felt that way right after he signed that long contract, way too big of a cap hit going up to a very old age. If he is amnestied, I would be interested in a short term deal. With his current contract, I will pass.

I don't think that Kipper is any kind of answer at this stage in his career.

No point, Let's see where Reimer and Scrivens take us for the rest of this season.

Two guys I'm looking at(I am sure other as well)

Joacim Eriksson(UFA) who plays for Skellefteć is one more for the immediate future. Then Fucale out of Halifax. I know Morrison wanted one of the 3 goalies last year with our second rounder last year, It'll be interesting to see jumps on it early this year.

I know it doesn't go against the cap and it IS NYR with money, but I imagine paying out the huge amount at once, even for NY, that's alot of dollars for basically 2 seasons of work. Would be interesting to see if there's public fallout, with Richards liking NY, and being told after 2 seasons "take your money and get out of here".

Kipper is on a pretty useless team in Calgary, when healthy he's a top 5 goalie in the league and can carry a team on his back. I find it funny how people look at a 12 game sample coming back from injury and say he's washed up.

He's a goalie who will give you 70+ games a year, he's capable of carrying a team and over the last 3 seasons he's been a .916 Sa% goalie with two .920 seasons in there on an otherwise nothing special Calgary team.

IMO This is the type of move Toronto should be looking at if they don't have to over pay. at 36 he probably has 2 good years in him and by that time Toronto should have hopefully found their goalie of the future. And in the mean time made a push for a serious playoff run.

Yes, but we still won't get him. Some idiotic team will give him 5.5M+ again. I would sign him for like 4-4.5M considering the money he gets from the buy out anyways.

I'll puke if Weiss is offered that much money from Toronto. Plus he is a center.
Can't compliance buyout both Grabo and Komi. Either one or the other.
Hecht isn't what he used to be. If Weiss is in the equation (hopefully not) then he goes center on the top line. Kessel will never be a center. Then just bump Perry down a line, with Kessel getting top spot.

Holy Weiss one...you cannot give Weiss 5.75M. We're trying to get rid of overpaid contracts, not add more.

Grabo and Weiss aren't too far apart...We need to trade Grabovski, buy out Komi.

I would love to acquire Miikka Kiprusoff, though he has been having an injury plagued downseason, I think he has a few good/great seasons left in the tank. Generally he's a workhorse but with James Reimer in the fold I think we could put together a very competitive 1A/1B (Marc Andre Fleury/Tomas Vokoun) type tandem that would take us to the next level. He's currently 36 and signed at contract that pays him 5.8M this season and next.

I have no idea what it would take but the Calgary Flames appear to be a weak organization at the goaltending position with no real successor to Kiprusoff in place. We'd likely have to include a young goaltender (Ben Scrivens, Mark Owuya, Garrett Sparks or Jussi Rynnas), another prospect and pick.

Hypothetical offer:

Toronto gives:
Ben Scrivens + Carter Ashton + 2nd

Calgary gives:
Miikka Kiprusoff

..

They might want one of our NHL defenseman like Mike Kostka or Mike Komisarek as well. They could be worked into the proposal.

I thought each team was afforded 2 buyouts that did not count against the cap. Weiss would centre Vanriemsdyk and Kessel and kadri would centre perry and lupul. The contracts given were worst case scenarios as to not have anyone discard them as being to cheap. Obviously if want Weiss to be in the 4 range
