Sure picks are just picks.

The owners didn't invest to broadcast other teams in the playoffs.

To get anything of value is going to take good value going back in the other direction and let's be real there isn't much on the team that would be considered good value, and the prospects aren't bluechippers by any means.

At least with picks the other team gets to make the mistake rather than taking on someone else's mistake.

The New York Rangers are the most valuable NHL franchise at $1.2 billion, taking the top spot on the Forbes list for the first time since 2004.

The magazine said Tuesday that Montreal is second at $1.18 billion, followed by Toronto at $1.15 billion.

I can see and agree with your points, but it really seems a 180 from Nonis in Jan seeming to stress about slow and steady. I'm not so sure what to think now-before the events of today I was of the "48 game preseason" idea, with the idea of seeing who fits and who doesn't, but now it seems like possible pressure to Nonis to make a competitive team and make the playoffs this year.

It certainly would make sense though, cynically agreeing, that Rogers/Bell didn't buy the Leafs to "broadcast other teams playoffs" as you so well put it.

This, though I'm sure we'll be sitting pretty right at .500 battling for 9th, so selling would be too late to tank for a pick anyways. We'll likely be stuck in standings purgatory, as per usual.

We still might get a good player there, just not the player we really need. Where do you think Max Domi will go? Saw him play a ton of games and man does he have game.

Pretty broad statement. I think every team could answer the question the exact same.

We have heard the need for a top-3-Defenseman for a while now, who are realistic/possible targets?

NHL trade deadline: Who’s still on the market?
By: Bob Mitchell

DAVID CLARKSON

Hard to see Devils GM Lou Lamoriello trading Clarkson, 28, with New Jersey still in the playoff picture. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent this summer, so if you’re going to give up a draft pick to get him, you’d better be sure you can sign him. It will take more than his current $2.6 million salary. He scored 30 last season and has 11 in 29 this year. He would help any team. One way or another, this Toronto-born player could end up with the Leafs sooner or later.
I hope he's right.

Anyone even begin to fathom this rumor that Subban, Price, Patches and a 1st for Lecavalier was shut down by the owners of the Lightning? I almost want to barf.

I doubt the Leafs would draft him. Too much pressure on both the kid and the organization.

what year was this, 08? i forget their team situation but seemed like they believed they had a team prime for another cup run, which i believe did happen a few years later.

deal looks bad now but at that time, based upon my assumptions, it probably was the correct move.

I think we should target D. Roy for our #1 center. Probably come cheap as contract talks arent going well with Dallas. Probably a pick and a prospect.

I really doubt it, but I can see how it's possible after his 08 season that maybe it might have happened? He was one of the top players in the league at the time and they had just dealt Richards too. Hindsight being 20/20, yeah that's ridiculous if they passed it up, but Subban and Patches were still just prospects and Price had only half a season under his belt so he wasn't a guarantee either...I dunno, I can see why they would have turned it down, but I doubt they were offered that package anyways.

the reason we had to give grabovski such a big contract if you remember
is there was no one else on the FA market. They had all been resigned by their teams. If we lost him we had no one to replace him with.
The same as connoly he was a left over choice not our first choice.
The same reason we will have to resign Bozak this year. Who else out there as a free agent is really a big upgrade on him.

Kadri will be fine going forward as our best center.

Somehow in order for us to get that center we need we have to get down
to a top 6 pick this year. Mackinnon,Barkov,Monahan, etc

the problem is how can we get there

trades?

Won't buy or hope for it till I see he's in the FA and looking to come home.

Well we have 2 in Phaneuf and Gardiner (hopefully).

Maybe Bieska (he has a 4.6 million cap hit on a team that could be looking for some cap relief), Girardi (would be perfect in my eyes, but would likely be the hardest to get), Michalek (Pheonix is a budget team and just have Yandle and OEL locked up), those are top four guys (michalek would be a #4, the other #3's).

Other additions could be Derrek Morris, Stephane Robidas, Kevin Klein?

beiksas a dbag + I think the nucks love him, Girardi wont be moved, michalek maybe but I'm not sure he can handle being in a big market (his game didnt even translate in pittsburgh), morris I feel is being overrated around here lately, robidas would be available but hes been regressing, there is no way in HELL nashville trades klein

Not really sure who we should target to be phaneufs d partner.... volchenkov isnt the force he was with ottawa but we could prob get him for dirt cheap/ exchange a bad contract and they may compliment eachother?

I hope he's right.
I have some concerns with bringing him here.

Trading for him shouldn't be an option IMO

But most of all, The money. Ideally $3.5 would be my limit, But free agency is usually ridiculous. I really don't want another Armstrong situation again.

Clarkson will get 5 million. I'd love him with the Leafs as we really need a skilled tough guy in our top 6, but not for that price. Maybe if Grabovski is moved out.

Kadri is younger and far more productive this season and they're both small. I wouldn't be looking at Roy.
