I think it's safe to say with so much movement, those who follow hockey would immediately raise their eyebrows at the scene. Especially with Nonis being more of a quieter man in the background. Don't have to listen to eklund to start hypothesizing.

I like Kipper. Him and Reimer can share the starting role depending on who isn't injured at the time.

Brian Elliot done in STL?
Quote:

Elliott could be the player that loses a roster spot when the Blues are ready to activate T.J. Oshie (ribs) during the team's current road trip, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Recommendation: Oshie's return means someone has to go and the Blues are carrying three goalies right now. They can demote Jake Allen, but Elliott has been brutal and would leave the team vulnerable to poor goaltending play. Other options include forwards Chris Porter and Matt D'Agostini.

Everyone knows he had an unreal season last year....

Do we pick him off waivers / buy low on him via the trade market?

Rangers and Kings are talking Gaborik trade.

How about the Leafs dangle a package of Kessel+ for one of their Centers?

He'll be 37 by the start of next season... Makes absolutely no sense to trade a 1st round pick for him. I would be beyond shocked to see this happen, and would want to see Nonis fired if that's the type of move he wants to make.

In saying that, I think it's just a BS rumour created to stir up interest by the media, and I fully expect Nonis to not make the alleged deal.

We won't get their centers. Don't see it.

Kessel + won't get us Kopitar and i'm not adding for one of Richards or Carter. Richards is a pretty gritty center but he doesn't provide as much offence as he used too. You will be lucky to get 55-60 points out of him. I would rather target a center to play WITH Kessel ala Paul Stastny

Elias is slated to become a UFA this summer.

That's a player I'd love to get on this team. Really solid veteran.

I don't think he'll leave New Jersey though but you never know.

Two trades:

1. Grabo + Scrivens to Calgary for Kipper.

2. Bozak + Frattin + Gunnarson to Colorado for Statsny.

JVR - Statsny - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - MacArthur
Kulemin - McLement - Komarov

Respectfully, I'd say no to the 2nd one. Stastny has evolved as a 50-60 pt centre, very similar to what Grabo is although their playing styles differ. Even if Stas regains some of his old form and hits the 60-70 pt mark the loss of Frattin and Gunnar won't justify the extra 10-20 pts in production.

We'd be kicking ourselves in 2-3 years when Frattin solidifies himself as an all-purpose 2nd line RW capable of 23/35 each season. Not to mention Gunnar's top-4 role!

I'd do Bozak + Gunnar for Stas, but no Frattin.

His rather pedestrian .904 SVP this year certainly doens't make me want to overlook his contract term.

With Komi on waivers I think Nonis is up to something here. The GMs are meeting today in Toronto and I get the feeling we might see more movement today/tomorrow. I know one team (can't remember which) was reported to have flown their whole scouting staff to Toronto for these meetings today.
I'd assume Lu retires by then and I believe we'd share the cap hit with Vancouver then? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah, I don't see him having the balls to trade away the 1st, unless someone else is calling the shots.

Guys are really intent in moving players here and I would be adverse to big change. These ideas of offering Kessel it just plain nuts. The idea of trading for Backstrom is just plain backwards. The guy bailed on his team in two consecutive playoffs, him and Kostitsyn you would think are brothers. Don't want any part of him here.

We need another minute eating d-man. The rest I would leave.

The problem isn't if he retires it's if he doesn't retire.

Assuming this type of thing can have serious repercussions - I wouldn't.

I don't think that makes sense, we can't worry about all that so much if we want to try to make it. Simply put he's an all-star goalie that should have at least 4-5 years left.

If after 5 years he is useless, then we simply bench him and swallow the hit. I don't think he'll choose to stay shelved for 4 years, instead of being forced to retire...if it comes to that.

Last time he was in the all-star game was 4 years ago. Look no one will dispute the fact that he's a legit #1 tender, but the contract term is prohibitively expensive. It'll be one ugly situation if Luongo rides the pine for 3 years in Toronto making north of $5 million a season. It was bad enough for Toskala and Raycroft, both of whom couldn't wait to get out of Toronto once their time was done.

Agreed, far too much risk for possibly no reward.

People put too much faith into rumors. Phaneuf said himself Iggy was the first person to call him and congratulate him when the Leafs named him captain.

They are way out of the playoff hunt and to them Reghir is just a rental player, I dont think they would worry about a divisional trade too much.

Still think clearing up roster space might have to do with trying to land a college free agent by giving him a spot on the big team this year.

I find that highly unlikely. If Randy is willing to sit 8m worth of dmen in the press box, Nonis isnt going to guarantee ice time to a guy whos never played a game in the NHL.

Randy has COMPLETE control over his lineup.

Agreed. What would be enticing is playing through a playoff run on the Marlies and having a legit shot at cracking the leafs' lineup next year. Toronto is perhaps the most comfortable place to play in the AHL, which I'm sure does help somewhat.
