Happy that the MLB season's here, but don't care at all about these two teams, so sticking with the Qunnipiac whooping of Union on ESPNU and Bruins/Sabres on NBCSN.

Maybe the gimpy one but when that guy was on and I know he didn't have it very long but he was just as good as Unit or Pedro, glass man though, didn't last.

They both fan about 11 guys in 5 innings and are done because they run up the pitch count.

Norris has that when he's in Minute Maid.

Jose Altuve is awesome.

Elvis Andrus just got an 8 year extension and is now due $131M over the next 10 years. Sure seems like a lot for him.

Great signing by the Rangers. He's definitely worth it.

His offensive numbers have plateaued, he isn't an elite base stealer, offers no power, and has never scored over 100 runs in a potent lineup and in a sick hitters park. He's great defensively, but he'll need to improve his offensive numbers to justify that contract. It's not necessarily the AAV I have an issue with, but the 10 year part that seems stupid.

The 24 year old player's offensive numbers have plateaued!!!!!!!!!! sure. Not only does he play great defense...he plays great defense at the most important defensive position.

Great defense, yeah... but like I said, offers pretty much no power, OBP is mediocre, career OPS after 4+ seasons is under .700. Is there any reason to expect his offensive numbers to vastly improve, or is it just the hope they might because he is only 24 years old?

Again, don't have an issue with the AAV, but I don't see a reason why they bump him to a 10 year contract. That's just too long for a guy who hasn't really improved over 4 years.

His OPS the last two years was over .700. Your career OPS point is like people arguing against Patrick Kane giving his career ppg number including his rookie year as a teenager.

I know you're a Cubs fan, but perhaps living in Atlanta has skewed you opinion of a player who could have been a Brave

His OPS the last two years was .707 and .728... hardly anything to brag about. So even if you look at that minor improvement as something to point out, he only stole 21 bags last year and was under a 70% success rate.

Also, I have hated the Braves since well before I ever had a hint I might be moving to Atlanta...

While the OPS doesn't look overly imposing, an OBP in the .340s the last 3 years is above average for a shortstop. Players who are above average in their 21-23 year old season tend to become elite. As far as dollar value is concerned, you have to consider that the 8 year extension isn't buying out any arbitration years-all free agent, so you have to consider it from the perspective that currently, 1 win is worth about $4.5/5 on the free agent market. Since Andrus was worth 4 wins above replacement in each of his 22 year old and 23 year old seasons, I think 8 years, $120 million-$15 per till he's 34 years old is a great deal for both the Rangers and for Andrus.

Going to try to listen to at least some of the Cubs game on the radio today at work. Thankfully a bit slow, so should be able to handle it.

Are one of the Cubs/Sox on WGN today? I'm in the car back to Milwaukee and hoping to catch one of the games.

The radio? I'd assume that Cubs're on WGN radio, like all games.

No I'm asking about TV. I'm in the car so I can't check the TV listings but I will be at school in 90 mins.

Oh, sorry. Saw the car part and just assumed you meant to listen to on the ride down.

Yes, Cubs're on WGN TV at least according to the Cubs website.
