Huge loss for sure, but then you think about how little Kovy has produced 5 on 5 and I don't you'll see the Devils crash and burn as bad as you would think. We'll see I guess.

I think the defense this team has played for the last 5 periods has been especially good. Key is to keep that up and they'll be in every game they play.

Agreed.

Kovy's going to be around for awhile and we don't need any LINGERING injury that will last the rest of his career.

That said, I hope he comes back in 2 weeks.

It isn't just his production they'll miss, it's his presence on the ice. Teams know how dangerous a player Kovalchuk is and will sometimes overplay him, giving more room for other players on the ice. Even when he isn't producing in terms of points, his presence on the ice opens up a lot more room for his teammates and helps create more chances offensively.

Should be interesting to see how the team reacts without him, but I'm not holding my breath for anything spectacular.

No matter what the combinations are, the offense is hideous right now

I get the feeling that Patty is going to release the kraken soon and go on a monster run.

Elias/Zajac/Clarkson have developed some good chemistry lately so hopefully the offensive surge we've seen from them being together will help out big the next couple weeks

Wow 2-4 weeks is great news. We really need Clarky to get hot again to help ease the blow. If we can get into the playoffs and get a healthy Kovy roaring back we'd be dangerous. Maybe another acquisition too (Jagr).

as long as we are in the top 8 and can be healthy in the playoffs I will be content. and even without Kovy, since the East is so bad there is a good chance we will be.

I'd say separation, just from experience.

I had a very similar play happen to me when I played and it was a separation. I was out probably a month and a bit but it wasn't a very high level of hockey and I wasn't pushing every day to get healthy like I know Kovalchuk will.

I bet Deboer puts that shutdown line of Poni Zubs and Bernier back together. I tihnk we will do just fine with this lineup until Kovy returns.

Elias Zajac Clarkson
Henrique Loktionov D'agostini
Ponikarovsky Zubrus Bernier
Carter Gionta Kostopolous

The special teams will clearly miss Kovy, he has been a monster on the PK all year. Hopefully the boys practice the powerplay before the game tomorrow.

Did I miss something? Why the hell is Tim Sestito playing on this team lately? Nothing about his play, but I had no idea he was actually up.

“He has a shoulder injury and the first thing is there’s no operation,” Lamoriello said. “It’s not an operative situation. It’s a shoulder injury. As I said, it could be two, it could be four, it could be less, certainly not more.”

This quote has me pretty optimistic. I know our medical staff has been a gong show the last few years, but Lou rarely makes definitive statements like that.

This is the kind of situation where you could see a Player stepping up to the plate and reveal unexpected leadership skills. Last year it was Henríque... We'll see what Loktionov or Dags are going to do with a lot more of responsibilities now. Enjoy kids.
