Huge loss for sure, but then you think about how little Kovy has produced 5 on 5 and I don't you'll see the Devils crash and burn as bad as you would think. We'll see I guess.
I think the defense this team has played for the last 5 periods has been especially good. Key is to keep that up and they'll be in ever game they play.
It isn't just his production they'll miss, it's his presence on the ice. Teams know how dangerous a player Kovalchuk is and will sometimes overplay him, giving more room for other players on the ice. Even when he isn't producing in terms of points, his presence on the ice opens up a lot more room for his teammates and helps create more chances offensively.
Should be interesting to see how the team reacts without him, but I'm not holding my breath for anything spectacular.
Wow 2-4 weeks is great news. We really need Clarky to get hot again to help ease the blow. If we can get into the playoffs and get a healthy Kovy roaring back we'd be dangerous. Maybe another acquisition too (Jagr).
I had a very similar play happen to me when I played and it was a separation. I was out probably a month and a bit but it wasn't a very high level of hockey and I wasn't pushing every day to get healthy like I know Kovalchuk will.
“He has a shoulder injury and the first thing is there’s no operation,” Lamoriello said. “It’s not an operative situation. It’s a shoulder injury. As I said, it could be two, it could be four, it could be less, certainly not more.”
This quote has me pretty optimistic. I know our medical staff has been a gong show the last few years, but Lou rarely makes definitive statements like that.
This is the kind of situation where you could see a Player stepping up to the plate and reveal unexpected leadership skills. Last year it was Henríque... We'll see what Loktionov or Dags are going to do with a lot more of responsibilities now. Enjoy kids.
