Same here.

For me, this news is far better than the apocalyptic press conference i envisioned.

2-4 weeks? Given what happened and the injury possibilities, this is one of the better outcomes........ Team has to button up and pick up the slack everywhere. Not going to be easy, but it'll force the team to come up with new looks that the opposition will have to re-train against, particulary in this conference only season.

Better than hearing he's got to shut it down until next year with surgery, etc. etc.

Just hope the shoulder injury doesn't adversely impact his release (whether wrist shot or slapper) in the long term. Look at it this way, if anything, Kovy will be getting a lot of rest and that back of his, a reprieve.

The season is over in 5 weeks so if it takes him 4 then we are probably already in trouble.

A team that has trouble scoring just lost their top winger, that is bad news any way you want to dice it. Only thing we have going for us is that the East is garbage. Bad news to come back to.

Best case scenario.
Definitely not as bad as what I was expecting. I thought minimum two months.

We're going to need him to for sure. Zajac, Clarkson, and Henrique too. This is when the best players need to step up.

I'll bet you all the PP goes on a crazy streak without Kovy around.

This team can barely score with Kovy, now they don't even have him. That is probably the scariest part out of all this.

At least Marty is in instead of Moose now though

Much better then most expected, but still sucks. We are going to need other guys to step up in a big way. Patty releasing the Kracken would be one thing. I am not calling it quits yet that is for sure.

What I wonder is does Lou change his plans because of this or not. I mean ya Ottawa is overcoming their injuries (and I still don't know how), but is that is really playing with fire because there is no guarantees.

Lou wants to win, he doesn't sell or give up on seasons so does he go to overpay on someone to make sure we get into the playoffs?

As weird as it sounds, I think it's a possibility. The injury could be a blessing in that the coaching staff might finally see that Kovy doesn't need to man the point.

This team has more than enough people to put the puck in the net, and we're likely to see a serious "buckling down" on D with our best forward out. We're about to witness some serious Devils hockey from all 4 lines. Can't wait to see what they look like.

Yes this I can see happening too. It is going to force the PP to have to do something different, and lord knows it has needed to do something different. Obviously we will miss Kovy's bomb, but who knows.

Other guys just need to step up, and the D needs to buckle down. Marty might need to enter god mod.

No one is saying it will be easy, but it is possible and we could emerge a better team for it if things go our way when Kovy returns. Poni sounds like he should play Friday, Zubs sounds like another week and a half.

If Kovy does wind up being gone closer to the lower end than the top, then the good news is this will be our second longest break of the season. We don't play again until Friday. Ottawa will be tough, but if they bring their A game against TB and Florida this weekend those should be wins even with no Kovy. That knocks a week off right there. I'm comfortable with Marty both games as long as he isn't worked too much in Tampa.

Poni should hopefully be back for the trip to Florida so that should help a bit. Zubs hopefully after Florida.

We have enough to beat a team like Ottawa as well as the two Florida teams. It is a big test, but we have to rise above this because he will be back before the season is over. Up to everyone else to make sure there is still something to play for.

We have a pretty 'easy' schedule the next week or so, maybe we can string together a streak so we can absorb some losses against the big dogs while kovy is gone. I still have a good feeling because it seemed like every time kovy is out we turn it up a gear to compensate. One thing is for sure though, we NEED him for the playoffs more than we do right now and if we make it we'll have a nice rested kovy. No doom and gloom yet.

Interesting move to do it this late in the day after the trade season just started...likely means nothing but.

Kovy on IR.

They already said he was going to be out 2-4 weeks, and they needed to clear a roster spot. Why would that be a surprise? Unless it's LTIR (which they wouldn't need to do anyway since they're not near the cap) it's not news.

Poni was placed on IR this morning to clear a spot for Pesonen.

But your right it likely isn't news. Just odd timing.

Technically, they already opened that roster spot by placing Poni on IR, as well.

But Kovy's definitely going to be out for 10+ days, so no need to wait and see there.
Don't see anything too strange about that move happening this quick.

But, who really knows whats going on in Lou's mind...

I thought Zubrus was supposed to be back this week? where did another week and a half come from?

If their timetable for Kovy is this off he's done for the season.

As long as Ilya is fully healthy come playoff time, I'm not worried at all.

It was said today Zubrus won't be on the Ottawa trip or the FLA/TB trip.

If Zubrus sits out the road trip and comes back on the Monday game against the Isles, that's 7 weeks just outside of the projected 4-6.

If he's starting to shoot pucks finally, seems like one of those games that week would be a likely return for him.

Well they announced the 4-6 week timetable for Zubrus in mid-February - on the 14th to be exact. The 28th this month marks exactly six weeks. If they're off by three lousy days (and Zubrus comes back April 1) I'm not particularly worried.

Of course they can't afford to be a few days off with Kovy given what's left in that final week of the season and what it could mean.

Fun to speculate why Kovy was put on IR. Most likely we will just call someone up

I think we can survive the next few weeks without Kovy. Some guys have to get hot and Marty needs to stay in beast mode. If we play lock down d like we did against Carolina and if Marty plays like vintage Marty we will get through this. These next few games may not be pretty, but we can do it. I believe.
