I would be shocked if Komi isn't claimed.

They're not old or out of shape.

That being said, their "improvement" window has definitely closed. They are going to have a couple of key young players who will keep improving, sure, but Hamilton is never going to be the player and the rock Chara is. Too much of a different kind of game. And their prospect pool is significantly thinner than it was in the last few years. Now these prospects are starting to bank off their success...

Seguin, Krejci, Hamilton, Marchand, Lucic and Rask are all 26 and under... Their core will be fine for another 5 years

That salary could definitely scare some teams, but I still think someone will take a chance. He's not *that* bad, and he is certainly better than some of the scrubs playing around the league now.

True. But I still don't see anyone replacing Chara, neither do I see any first tier prospect being added to that group anytime soon.

They'll be competitive and fine, sure. But their window of "improvement" is now closed. They're at the top of their curve. Their ascension is likely over.

The Bruins are going to have a hard time once Chara. They do have some decent prospects in Knight, Spooner, Kolas...what ever his name is, Camara who looked good for team Canada, Subban who they could use as trade bait, Griffith

The thing they don't have is good defencemans in the minors, they have no one besides Hamilton and that's where Chiarelli will need to address their problem the most

I really wish the rumor of Toronto trading their 1st to Calgary is true. Would be an amazing turn of events.

If Toronto makes that trade, it will be the best thing since the Kessel deal.

Wow...the fact that it's even being floated as a possibility is insane.

I think players can be extended once they have a year remaining on their contracts.

Don't feel bad for that guy onnnnne bit. Judases us to the Leafs for less after being anointed by Bob Gainey. Thinks he's anything but Markov's competent D partner. He can F off.

Whenever free agency starts he can, but he can't be extended before that. So, if the deal is in the off-season...

Just wondering when everyone thinks Chara is gonna be gone. You would think by reading the posts that he's announced his retirement. Tons of D men retired at a far older age than he is now. Plus his conditioning is supposedly great. Why would he be gone within the next 5 years (which is quite some time)? Maybe longer.

Also, who's gonna replace Markov? You can say that Markov has slowed down, but it would be foolish to say you can replace a player like Markey.

If he made half the money, I would totally claim Komisarek. He could come back here an humbled man who's realized the error of his ways, and play with Markov again.

My guess is, the Islanders claim him, local boy and all.

But if he goes unclaimed...what a slap in the face for the guy...

I've hated on Komisarek and yeah, he's a disloyal pig and all, but I remember when he was a prospect for us and the hopes we had for him... makes me hate him more but at the same time, what a story it could have been for him to comeback here and find himself.

But he makes too much.

Rask is a great young goaltender, but he's not exactly Thomas standing on his head.

Remember the way Jonathan Quick played last year in the playoffs? That was basically Timmy for an entire season + post-season.
