Pretty simple April 3rd roles around and your team is hypothetically in a selling position. Who is available? Just want to get an idea of potential players that teams would likely be willing to give up.

Oilers: Hemsky, Belanger, Whitney, Potter, Peckham, Horcoff...?

Possibly these. If we manage to lose now like 6 in a row.

I think for the Avs anyone not named Duchene, Parenteau, Varlamov, Johnson, Hejduk and O'Reilly (for obvious reasons) would be available for the right price.

Why is Edler available? What happened to him?

I don't know if he is, he had a rough start, but is really turning it around. He's on the list because we have a solid d core already (at least on paper) and he would bring back the most, by far, in a trade to fill our more pressing needs

Yes. If we're selling, as is the case in this hypothetical situation, he's the most attractive trade asset outside of Luongo.

Pyatt
Boyle
Eminger/Gilroy/Hamrlik/Bickel (hey, perhaps we can get a 7th for that package )
Gaborik
Halpern (?)
Powe (?)
Stralman, but only if they think McIllwrath is ready to play some solid RD minutes next year. I also don't see too many people around here valuing him as the #4/#5 defenseman he is - so I think no deal here.

Gaborik aside, nothing really of much value. Perhaps someone desperate for size is going to overpay for Boyle and Pyatt.

One of Girardi/MDZ/Staal could be on the market, if there is a huge return.

Could be had if price is right:
Flash
Versteeg
Kulikov
Goc
Kopecky
Mueller

More likely to be moved:
Smithson
Weaver

Don't see Tallon moving too many players this TDL.
This year sucked, however, the team will need to be competitive for his sake next year IMO.

I dont get it...Without Edler, you dont have any D with true #1 potential. Hamhuis is a very good 2/3#, Garrison a pretty good 2nd pairing guy, Bieksa is an enigma, and the rest are bottom pairing guy at best.

Unless there's a horrible collapse in the next little while, the Habs won't be sellers, but these guys would be available. Some are likely available even if the Habs weren't sellers:

Ryder
Kaberle
Weber
Bourque
Gionta
Budaj
Bouillon
Armstrong
Moen

Possible, but the Habs would expect an overpay IMO:
Markov
Plekanec

We aren't looking to get rid of him, he is just available for an upgrade at more needed positions. Edler is a #2 guy with the ability to become a #1 and does so on an inconsistent basis. He does have a lingering back issue that seems to affect his ability to play big minutes (more than 25). I'm not saying 100% that his injuries will hinder his play going forward, but it certainly appears that way. Lately we have been going with Hamhuis and Garrison as our top pair and following up with Edler and Tanev, and I have been really impressed with those pairings, especially the ability of Garrison in a role next to Hamhuis and they have been getting the tough time for us. It is still in a semi-experimental stage, but it seems to be working. I would be an advocate of moving Bieksa before Edler but Bieksa has a NTC (same with Hamhuis and Garrison) while Edler's kicks in next year I believe. Also I would really think that Bieksa and Tanev are not "bottom pairing guys at best" as Bieksa has been on our top pair for the majority of the last couple years and Tanev is solidifying a spot in the top 4 next to Edler right now.

We arent as deep of a team as we thought we were, and when injuries hit, our players have not stepped up to fill the roles. Currently we have an AHL centre on our second line and a winger playing centre for our third. Although it would be a hit to our defense to lose Edler, theoretically we would gain much needed up front. It's not that we want to get rid of Edler, it's just that he is our most valuable movable asset, in an area we are decently deep at.

Why Gionta? Seems to me you would get more value from him on the roster rather than moving him for picks/prospects.
