Is Boychuk speedy? He is only 23 years old, why is he being waived?

No love for Komisarek? He brings an element the Canucks don't really have to the defense. I picture him clearing the net in the playoffs.

Are you being serious? Like someone mentioned Komisarek is worse than Alberts, and he makes 4.5 million! Claiming him would be the dumbest move possible.

We already have the Ice Girls who clear the net.
We don't need to pay some guy $4 million plus to clear the ice during commercial breaks!!!!!

Boychuk clearly isn't good enough, age means nothing if you can't play. Big no to Komisarek, he's useless and even he knows it.

Boychuk has a lot of skill but simply doesn't play the NHL game well enough, and he's a bit of a liability. Nashville waived him despite his two points in 5 games and that's a real bad sign.

Just to throw this out there but say Boychuck went the college route instead and he was in this years free agent class. Do you think he'd be highly sought after? I'd assume if he played in the NCAA this past year he would've put up some gaudy numbers

This is 7 year old Sam Gagner getting an autograph.

Said it before the season and I would say it again now - I would trade Ballard for Komisarek straight up. Right side guy who on the third unit would balance our pairings. One year less than Ballard left on his contract so should be easier to move or cheaper to buy out. If we could claim him and move Ballard at the same time I would do it.

Komisarek is terrible. I wouldn't even trade Alberts for him.

Honestly I wouldn't even pick him up if the Leafs were giving us an asset, that's how bad that guys contract is. I can't believe Leafs fans were proposing Komi+3 rd for Lu at one point

I always forget in this forum how all Leaf players and prospects are terrible. Just like there were only a few people who wanted Kadri in a goalie trade. Komisarek when you consider the side he plays and his shorter contract is a better fit for this team right now than Ballard.

That's like asking one to choose they prefered method of execution. Both are horrible for what they're currently making. If he can't make the Leafs squad - don't think they're THAT deep on the right side, what makes you think he'd make this squad. Has nothing to do with what uniform he currently wears.

Ballard is bar none the better player though. Would you trade Hansen for Brian Boyle? Boyle may play the more ideal position for the team, but in now way shape or form is he the better player.

Komi is barely an NHLer and has a contract of a top 4 guy, he wouldn't of been waived if he had any value, he would of been traded

Not sure Toronto would make that trade either. Trading for possible buyouts is not the way to make an impression. Leafs seem like they have plenty of d men as well.

They wouldn't. But in a vacuum, I make the swap. Any bad things you say about Komisarek can probably be said about Ballard. I'm not saying either guy is good, I'm saying Komisarek is the better fit of the two.

Komisarek's uselessness is being a bit over exaggerated. He is undoubtedly better than Alberts but that price? We shouldn't even be sort of interested. If he was a UFA at season's end? Maybe but another year of $4M? Nuts to that.

Pick up Komi, waive Ballard? Net cap effect is positive, losing something for "nothing", but also gaining something for "nothing", as well, so that's a wash.

That's pretty awesome.

I wouldn't mind getting any aged superstar at the deadline, though.(Igina, Jagr, Alfredsson, etc.)

keith ballard is still a top-6 d-man on almost every nhl team while komisarek is a ahl d-man at this point in his career...this is based on not comments from the leafs board but on most people that have watched his play deteriorate over the past few years
