Is Carter on the block or something? Can't imagine LA wanting to trade him.

And I maintain that LA's Cup run was 90% Sutter. Carter was mediocre for much of that run.

Is this confirmed? I heard something about the rule being different under the new CBA. Not sure though.

If we're able to move Edler, that should be a top priority at the draft. Personally I'd see if Philly would trade their first round pick for him.

Then trade Kassian to Columbus for one of their firsts.

Then package Schneider somewhere for a first round pick.

BOOM. 4 1sts in this year's draft. Plus along with shipping Booth and Ballard to Timbuktu, we've cleared a whole lot of cap space to make some moves.

No, in fact it is false.

From multiple sites, a bit hard to find...

Quote:
- Jeff Carter rule - No-trade clauses can come into effect when a player signs a new contract, not when he starts to play under that contract: This one feels pretty self-explanatory - the Flyers signing Jeff Carter to an 11 year contract and trading him is a massively bad faith move. The Flyers repeated this by trading James Van Riemsdyk after signing a 7 year contract. JVR would likely not have been protected by this rule, but still - it's awfully low to sign a player to a contract, thereby increasing his value, then fobbing him off on another team.
And furthermore, Edler is worth a heck of a lot more than a single 1st from Philly. The idea of a full re-build is just stupid with the pieces we have in place, we just need a shake up.

Yeah that's what I thought, thanks.

And I don't think that would classify as a rebuild. More of a quick retool.

But the fact we're stuck with Edler for the next 6 years at 5 million a year is friggin' depressing.

Interesting. Didn't realize that rule got changed.

That summary isn't really correct. The new rule wouldn't have protected Carter because he wasn't eligible for a NTC in the year he was traded because he wasn't old enough and didn't have the requisite experience.

Here's the language from the MOU:

Quote:
No Move/No Trade Clauses that are negotiated as part of a contract extension may become effective immediately upon execution of, but prior to the effectiveness of, the extension contract, provided:

a) The Player is otherwise currently eligible to have a No Move/No Trade Clause, and

b) The Club with whom the contract extension is entered into agrees to make the No Move/No Trade Clause effective immediately upon execution of the extension contract.
Edler wouldn't qualify for A because he's still 26 years old and hasn't had 7 years of NHL experience. So his NTC doesn't come into effect until July 1st.

I wouldn't be so sure. I think this summer Gillis is going to sit down and figure out what assets we have that are tradable and can actually return something good. That list would include Edler, Schneider, and Kassian.

As a bonus, all three of those pieces can be moved without crippling this team in the slightest. And the return would be enormous.

What do people think about Burmistrov from Winnipeg? He is apparently available and I think would do a great job of filling that hole everyone keeps talking about of a C who can play 2nd line now and 3rd when Kesler comes back.

He has the top Corsi of all Jets' centres despite not seeing the easiest opposition (Jokinen). He isn't a fantastic faceoff guy at 47.1% but is much better than Schroeder (43.4) and Ebbett (38.0). He's 3rd on the Jets in PK TOI/G, but somehow gets little to no PP time despite his obvious skill.

From everything I can gather he is an effective 2-way player who drives play the right way and has untapped skill. His downsides are he isn't big (6'1, 180) and apparently struggles somewhat with the constraints of a system. That might be a red flag re: AV, but also may be a situation where he needs a change of scenery and a different system to break out.

I think a swap of Schroeder and a pick/prospect for Burmistrov might be good for both teams.

Why would we want to trade Kassian? He's got a bright future ahead of him, a rare skillset and is on an ELC next year.

Schneider and Edler I can see, and they appealing pieces.

TSN also just mentioned Vancouver was one of the teams interested in Gaborik. At least that's what I got from that.

Mentioned San Jose, Anaheim and us as possible option. The asking price though seems like not a great fit, they want a top 4 power play specialist and top 9 forward with bite.

I was into Clowe before the year as well, but he's been putrid this year.

Add a center to that list and I'm extremely happy. Then I would say we are contenders again.

Good pickup is young and the Jets/Thrashers are not known for development. He is a NHL level player which is a good start. I would prefer a center with a bit more of an edge but this beats no move by a lot. I think Winnipeg is eyeing the playoffs though so not sure they are looking to trade someone who is helping their team unless they get immediate help back. Scheoder would not be enough perhaps something around Raymond, and Ballard, with a d man coming back from Winnipeg.

I think Raymond could fetch something good. Not sure if with a raise he fits into the Canucks plans. I think he is underated in the regular season, but has never scored an important goal so i think should be traded in order to shore up another weakness or even for a good pick or prospect. While we trade other picks or assets to shore up center ice.

Seems like the Canucks are basically in on just about everything at this point. The famous words of Alain Vigneault are fitting at this moment. Gillis definitely is "trying his best."

Very interesting if true; would love to get Iggy on this team, but can't imagine Calgary would be asking for anything less than the whole enchilada to make it happen.
