How many Canadian teams can you make that would contend for a medal?

In truth, Canada has a battle each and every best on best tournament (basically Olympics) and I think we really only could field one medal contender.

Now......our B team would be good and probably be stronger than most other countries B teams......but probably be outside of medal contention in the Olympics. My two cents
Ok, admit it you are not Canadian

I think think some are having trouble grasping the meaning of the word "contend". I'd say a team that lost 2 games in shootouts to the teams that won Gold & Silver could have contended for a medal. Had Canada scored one more shootout goal, Sweden & Switzerland would have met in the QF. So would you say the loser of that game wasn't good enough to contend for a medal?

How many teams can lose in the quarterfinals... So I am going to go with 4, whoever asked this question probably deserves this answer.

They would all be labeled contenders.

Apparently the answer is zero. Swiss can make one.

Apparently, for Finland the answer is about three teams....the one we have in play now is the C-minus team and it is contending for a medal. ;-)

Irrelevant as long as you can only ice 1. And that team apparently have a hard time winning.

Can we not put this silly topic to rest. Canada has more hockey depth than any other at this point. We have more players. In ten years it will be the USA. So what!

You bring one team to a tournament and win or lose with that one. Let's enjoy the hockey.

In 50 years the US will probably be able to ice 20 teams that could contend.

I made the three Swedish teams and tried to make them rather even, just for fun of course. But it was a bit watered down, two teams are better (DUH). Still here they are:

Team one (close to the WC team forward-wise)
Daniel Sedin Henrik Sedin Loui Eriksson
Gabriel Landeskog Niklas Persson Simon Hjalmarsson
Martin Thörnberg Joel Lundqvist Fredrik Pettersson
Johan Larsson Gustav Nyquist Rakell
Simon Hjalmarsson

OEL Hedman
Hjalmarsson Gunnarsson
Kronwall Kronwall (!)
Andreas Fälth

Jhonas Enroth
Jacob Markström
Lehner

Team 2 (the best one on paper)
Zetterberg Backström Franzen
Hagelin Mika Zibanejad Stålberg
Dick Axelsson Calle Järnkrok Jimmie Ericsson
Nicklas Danielsson Filip Forsberg Oscar Lindberg
Andreas Jämtin

Edler Karlsson
Adam Larsson Brodin
Erik Gustafsson Fransson
Mattias Karlsson

Lundqvist
Hedberg
Läck

Team 3 (centre depth)

Steen Hörnqvist Alfredsson
Tedenby Berglund Paajärvi
Linus Omark Marcus Johansson Krüger
Carl Söderberg Lander David Ullstrom
Samuelsson

Strålman Enström
Tallinder Grossman
Douglas Murray Petter Granberg
Magnus Nygren

Anders Lindbäck
Jonas Gustavsson
Fasth

8.

After that you'll have them missing the quarter finals and that wouldn't be considered contending for a medal
