First Round: #7 PEI vs. #10 Val-d'Or

My favorite of the first round matchups ...

These are very similar teams skill wise, the Foreurs can fill the net more, but PEI have had better Team D. Val-d'Or have also disappointed in the reg season, so they could easily be #7 had they played to their true potential.

There's a lot of skill and big name players too ... Most notably Ben Duffy and MVP Candidate Josh Currie for PEI ... It takes a fall after that but Beran and Laplante are great players too ...

Val-d'Or was one of the top scoring teams in the league, and have guys like Mantha, Zlobin and Hynes who can win games by themselves ... If they want to.

Gord Dwyer is one of the best up-and-coming coaches too ... PEI are a hard working team and I think he'll have them ready.

Go Rocket, I want to see them succeed and draw fans for the next seasons rebramding ... And they haven't made it out of round 1 ever lol.

Agree that this should be the best series of the 1st round. Both goalies are good, but I think there will be goals a plenty in this series. Should be a war.

PEI in 7.

Go Foreurs Go!

I'm planning to live vicariously through the feisty Foreurs playoff run.

Foreurs in 7, this will be one hell of a series. Val D'Or has underachieved all year long. They'll surprise a few teams.

It's not so much that the Rocket have been underdogs. It's that they have achieved ahead of everyone's expectations. Laplante returning gives you a good boost as well. You now have 2 legit scoring lines.

PEI or Val d'Or winning won't really prove anyone right or wrong. It's a very even series and either team can win.

Pretty good first period of game 1. As expected, the game has been really close though I think Val d'Or has played a little bit better. Hopefully the Rocket can kill off the rest of the penalty and get something going.

OT but this is the first game I've watched online through Telus. I've heard a lot of complaining but the quality is just terrible. If it were a free stream I would understand but $8 is a lot for one game of poor quality feed. Is it always really bad?

Very close game with PEI taking it in OT. Beautiful goal by Josh Currie.

I watched around 10 games online with Telus this season and it's always crap.

And yes, it was a beautiful and clutch goal by Currie. But PEI needs to stay out of the penalty box.

He wasn't a factor in the game. At the same time, it was a special-unit game, there was a lot of powerplays on each side. It may explain why Zlobin wasn't able to use his speed/assets properly, maybe. IMO, the standout fowards were Anthony Mantha, Cédrick and Samuel Henley and Pierre-Maxime Poudrier. I will go to the game tonight and give a more detailed critic/appreciation of Zlobin.

Just bought my ticket for tonight game. The women who sells tickets said to me that the Civic Center is close to be sold out. Is that ever happened in Charlottetown ? I know the arena is small (the max is 3717 seats according to wikipedia) but it is great for the organization.

There were frequent sell-outs, and attendance averaged 3198 in 2003-04 and 3385 in 2004-05. It declined steadily after that as the teams performance was sub-par at best.

Hopefully the team will do it's job on and off the ice. The fans will return given a decent product.

It was a tough loss. At around 13 minutes left in the 2nd period, when Val D'or scored their 3rd goal, all the confidence was gone. But if there is a positive point, it is that Alexis Pépin is growing into a very good player. Right now, I think he is the best player after two games for PEI.

Anton Zlobin had a better game tonight. There isn't much defensively, but he is dangerous in the offensive zone. He is a marauder, he tries to find the spot and shoots or passes right after he receive the puck.

Agree on the comment on PEpin in my opinion Duffy is our worst FW right now I like what the team has for next yr because I think Laplante Pepin Marcotte and Provencer are all very good players the boys half to regroup tho I have a bad feeling about this series now and am not sure if we will see another game at the CCC

Do you think the three 20 years old will be Provencher, Oligny and Pavelka ?

And I don't understand why Alexandre Chénier-Allard isn't playing while Laliberté makes tons of mistakes. Chénier is not that good, but at least he can move the puck out of our zone and he is more mature. I know Laliberté is the future at 16 years old, but it is the playoffs.
