There's nothing wrong with Kesler centering the second line, but we need an elite third line centre even more IMO. If we've already got one, why trade for one? I'd rather focus on a player who's more suited for second line duties.

That is such a sweet deal for the Leafs that GMMG can get a bit more I believe.

I'd do Grabovksi+Biggs for Luongo.

Right now I'm kind of torn on the idea of acquiring Derek Roy.
I would only want him if we could re-sign him for under $5 mil per year, but even then he isn't good at faceoffs and is quite small.

I know Dallas would have a high asking price on him, so I don't want to give up a couple of good young assets for only 3 months of him.

Bear in mind, our salary structure will change significantly this off-season as well, with one of our goaltenders going, Ballard being a huge candidate for an amnesty buyout, etc.

I would be very happy with acquiring Roy at a reasonable price. Takes a lot of offensive pressure off the first line as well as Kesler.

How about Kadri, Bozak and a 2nd for Luongo?

That's why I don't think Dallas' asking price CAN be that high. If the Canucks can resign him if they want to, then great. But if a deal went down it would only be a rental, and while Roy is a pretty good player, he's not a premiere player, so I don't think the asking should be too bad.

Lets be honest Kadri is going nowhere. No interest in Bozak, what about Grabovski+Biggs?

Edit: Missed the sarcasm smiley. My question still stands though.

I was just being a jerk, lol.

Grabovski + I would look at. Maybe another prospect other then Biggs but it's not bad at all.

He is suited for second line duties. His stats from '08-'09 screams second line player. But I do agree about needing a very good third line centre.

I wouldn't be opposed to moving Kesler into more of a 3rd line role, A.K.A. a defensive role.
Last season and this season he seems like he's trying too hard to produce offensively, trying to replicate his 40 goal season. He doesn't use his linemates nearly enough and is hurting the team more than he is helping on even strength in the offensive zone.

I would still put him on the 1st PP unit, but I would prefer him going back to not being a one man army.

Acquire an offensive 2nd line center and make Kesler's line the shutdown line. He should still be capable of putting up 50 points in a 82 game season.

Problem is Kesler is paid to be a 2nd line player.

Personally I think Kesler would be way more effective on the 2nd line as a winger, specially if he has a good playmaking center to get him the puck.

I understand that Kesler's defensive prowess makes it hard to move him to the wing (Along with the paper thin depth at Center the Canucks have). Which is why keeping Kesler at the 2nd line C spot is the right move for the team at this point.

I just don't see a fit. Dreger said on TSN the Rangers need a power play specialist defenceman and a top 9 forward with bite. Those are also two of are needs. Not very good trading partners IMO. No deal to be made here.

Let's be reasonable here, Grabovski plus picks. A bunch of 2nd's maybe? IMO if we could have gotten a roster player plus a prospect we would have done it by now.

So apparently we're on Iginla's 3-5 team trade list, per McKenzie.

Roy produces more than Carter - Carter scores more goals. I would say they're pretty comparable, though I would prefer Carter due to his size and goalscoring ability.
Yeah, Roy is a great player. He's easily been the best possession player on his team each of the last two seasons and wasn't far off prior to that. He's also shown an ability in the past to be a good PP producer, which is something the Canucks could probably use in Kesler's absence moreso than a good EV producer.

...

The problem with someone like Grabovski is that the Canucks have next to no cap space next offseason. Any salary they add now just comes at the expense of other players currently on the roster. They are basically going to have to trim off the non-contributors to get compliant as it stands, and so with someone like Grabovski, that upgrade is offset by the fact that they need to shed even more talent. The team just doesn't get much bang for their buck trading Luongo for a player making market rate.

I have a hard time believing the Canucks would be a serious contender to get Iginla even if he does have them on his list of 3-5 teams.

I'd want T.O's 1st this year.

If Van has to provide a lesser pick to even it out, then so be it.

However, if Luongo is getting traded before the draft and a young blue chip prospect is not coming the other way, then I'd want to accumulate as many high draft picks as possible.

Yeah, I feel the same way.
No way Calgary trades their captain to a division rival. I think Feaster would use us as a bargaining chip to raise the asking price for him.
