Brassard doesn't sound remotely like a player that Gillis has shown interest in over his tenure here. Just because he's more likely to be available doesn't mean we have interest.

Gaborik is a steep price to pay for, though, and he makes 7.5 million/year. Can't imagine it would be easy to integrate him into the Canucks lineup without seriously gutting the team.

A 6-1 200lbs left shooting centre?

Nope. No interest at all.

A big name player becomes available, it's your job to call and ask what the cost is. He asked around on Nash too when he was available from Columbus.

If we can get a 3C, maybe we go after Alfredsson?

Gives us leadership, could really compliment the twins well.

I highly doubt they Sens move him. Especially when they're still very much in the playoff race.

That's it!

Force Paul Kariya out of retirement and put him on our 2nd line.

Yeah I agree. Keep our top picks, keep our prospects. Resolve the goalie situation and Ballard situation in the offseason, and assess our options. With Booth injured, we're a winger down so I don't think we can really go shopping one either.

Who knows, maybe all our crap luck during this season is setting us up for a miracle playoff run.
Yeah I agree. The trades so far this year seem to have picks valued a bit higher than usual.

Moreover, IF a coaching change occurs this season or in the offseason, I think we need guys like Higgins or Raymond as they are excellent options if he start playing a more forechecking or speed focused game.

Funny how theres some talk about getting players from teams that are more firmly planted in the playoffs than the Canucks.

I think Gillis would snag anything that could score. Iginla or Gaborik............Iginla is exactly the type of player Gillis covets. A veteren that can score, provide leadership, an exemplary community guy, a class act. You see how hard he went after Doan, watch him go all in on Iginla.

would you trade with Avs? Paul Stastny 6.6 cap hit? there was some rumour about canucks after him? That would help to push ROR to second line center position.......

There's no way we could afford his cap hit next year.

Oh man I hope Gillis doesn't go "all in". Not the year. Not the team.

I'm fearing a very stupid mistake by Gillis right now where he tries to get a 2nd line C or 1/2RW that costs him his 1st plus Jensen/Gaunce. It would be just about the dumbest thing he could do at this point. People willing gloss over what's happened to envision what _may_ happen given a few factors will allow for this line of thinking... and it's a mistake. One that I hope Gillis doesn't make.

But the problem is if it's not the year when will it be?

Kesler will be back, Booth is irrelevant if we add a real top 6 scorer, Malhotra can be replaced at the deadline. We could be completely healthy with both our goalies... if that isn't good enough it never will be again with this core.

But I see your point for sure, it would suck to give away future pieces then fail in the playoffs.

Agree somewhat. Depends on what we can get for Luongo or Schneider. If we get equal prospects or picks as the one's we trade it is not a disaster. However we cannot trade Jensen or our first for a rental we do not plan to sign. Do not go all in. Consider trading Raymond for an equivalent center. Or Raymond for a pick who you can trade for a center. We need a center this year and next year so if we can make a hockey trade that would be a no brainer. Iggy is a luxury, not sure we can afford luxuries when we have necessities that he to be filled.

I agree.

Sell of assets. Let your young players play. Stock up on draft picks.

Go after specialty role players in FA (Iginla, if we're on his list maybe he'll come as FA).

The deep draft and our injury concern, coupled with the short season makes that palatable at least to me.

Not to mention we can't really be that much worse with Connauton, Jensen, and Archibald than we are playing right now.

Ride the goalie and a the top line and top 4 defense to the playoffs and hope for the best, knowing next year presents a massive one year push.
