Montreal also just makes sense in general. If they are offering two of those 2nds, especially if one of them is the Flames, they really should take it.

I think it's clear GM Joe feels Dallas is on the cusp of being a playoff team. He seem to only target assets that can help now (Cole) or in the very near future (Morrow). Even my greatest wish for Severson may not be acceptable to him since he's probably at least 2 years or more away.

That probably means he has not interest in a 1st from Columbus either.

Unless a player is coming back for Jagr, I guess he's going no where.

and that would seem to also indicate that, if at all possible, Derek Roy will be traded for a kick the can down the road type of return.

Lots of internal debate in Stars front office right now: do they sign Jagr or do they trade him? Lots of interest in him of course
I wonder who wants to trade him, and who wants to keep him.

Eh it depends on whose 2nd rounders those are. Not to mention they've still got another day to wait and see if someone gets a little desperate on deadline day.

ok but would you rather have Jagr for just the end of this regular season over a couple of second round picks?

Joe does not have the benefit of that hindsight to know for sure whether Jagr is leaving.

For me, Jagr is one of the few guys on this team who makes my Center Ice subscription worthwhile. Selfish me would rather keep him with what seems like a good shot of keeping him next year over a couple of draft picks that are more likely to be busts than not.

Joe knows how contract talks are going. He can estimate a liklihood of jagr returnings.

See, I dont understand that. Jagr has had a great career, no doubt, but what is so exciting about watching him now? You're not watching mullet haired Jagr dominating everyone all over the ice. He is basically a really good 2nd line winger and I don't get what is so thrilling to watch about that.

Nothing new, but more from Lebrun:

Quote:
Jagr still in limbo

On the Jaromir Jagr front, it was still unclear as of Monday afternoon what will transpire. The Dallas Stars approached the Jagr camp three weeks ago about a contract extension, and the two sides have gone back and forth since. But still no contract extension.

Why? I'm hearing the Stars' front office is debating whether the team should sign or trade Jagr. And that decision had not been made as of Monday afternoon.

Other teams are absolutely calling with interest on Jagr. No surprise there, as he'd be a perfect rental. Hello, Boston Bruins?

But the Stars, who already dealt pending UFA Brenden Morrow, have to figure out if they should cash in on pending UFA Jagr or keep him around for another season. After all, the Stars were only two points out of a playoff spot Monday morning.

Sign him or trade him? To be determined.

No more contract extension talks for #stars Derek Roy. Hearing Canucks have interest in him. We'll see if he'll be traded or not. #RDS
Should mean 100% he'd be traded. I hope there's no question about that ... no contract .... traded.

There is also the issue that Benn and Jagr on the same team is a huge defensive liability with the way they turn pucks over and fail to backcheck. Jagr brings a lot of good to this team in intangibles but ultimately..
unless we acquire some actual thirdliners...

Definitely. And if they are trading Roy(as they should), I dont see any reason for holding onto Jagr. This is most likely not a playoff team. Even if they manage to get in, they arent going anywhere in the playoffs. Trade those two(and Robidas if you can) for the best pick/prospect package you can get and move on.

Jagr could benefit from a better center, but that's probably not going to happen.

Jagr and Whitney are the two best offensive players this team has. I greatly enjoy watching him play. He's tons of fun. He can create goals all by himself and for others. He's not 25 anymore, but he's still better than anyone this team have who could take his spot.

I'd rather keep watching him play instead of getting picks that are most likely going to wind up being nothing more than decent players for the Texas Stars.

Two seconds for Jagr is alright but I hope they go for 19-20 year old prospects over picks.

Montreal has Collberg, who I had heard compared to Eriksson leading up to his draft last year.

If we could nab him as part of any Jagr deal, I'd be happy.

He's not a center, but....meh. Would still like to add him.

From Jagr's agent:"Jaromir likes Dallas, he likes the team. We'll have to see if the interest is mutual". No talks scheduled w/Stars for now

Wow. Gotta think Joe's throwing in the towel and going into sell sell mode if Jagr's the one pushing for an extension now. Tables are turned.
