Carter & Richards Signing Deadline?

I read in an article that the deadline for signing 2003 draft picks is in July, 2005 (maybe the 1st?). If picks aren't signed by then, they re-enter the draft. Does this still hold true even though there's a lockout, or will the deadline be extended? I know the Flyers haven't signed Carter or Richards yet because they're waiting for the terms of the new CBA, but what happens if we don't get one by July?

No, the NHL and owners are going to think up something. Like extending the rights to their picks. I don't know what's going to happen to the 1984's, can't play junior. AHL contracts maybe, not sure. If the NHL doesn't happen soon, and the other leagues are getting so much better, CHL/AHL. This doesn't help the PRO game at all. The americans think we are nuts OR don't even know/care. We need Canadians running our game. This is just a job to Betman and the other clown. BRUTAL

The Date is midnight June 1st, 2005 by the old CBA ..

What will happen, depends on if a CBA is signed before or after that date .. and the new CBA may have some thing on this under transitional rules ..

Well, there is at least one Leaf fan that thinks that Carter is highly over rated.

Yes, but he, like many Leaf fans, is suffering from a severe case of Flyer-envy.

Envy would only occur if he thought that Carter was as good as he is hyped to be, but he doesn't.

Another week, another Carter and Richards signing deadline thread. Sigh.

They're not going anywhere, Clarke has stated that the NHL told them teams aren't going to lose their rights to unsigned draft picks.

But they loved the Leafs growing up, therefore they will challenge the courts to become Leafs, have you not been paying attention.

Only thing is yes, there is a chance we may lose them ( small as that may be ) but every time we try to discuss Carter and Richards , them not playing for the Flyers comes up, and the crap starts again.

NHL executive vice president Bill Daly quelched the speculation.

"Clubs will retain the rights to all players as to who had rights at the time of the lockout," Daly said. "As it relates to NHL clubs, their rights to players are totally as defined by the collective bargaining process. No club is in danger of losing rights to a player due to the passage of time. The same is true with players eligible for the draft this year."

Attention Leafs fans (for the second time)...

"Curran [Carter's agent] will argue that if the league can freeze the NHL rights for the teams that drafted them, then the players' rights also should be frozen and they should be signed under the terms of the last CBA. That likely will not happen. But it won't change the fact that Carter wants to be a Flyer, Curran said.

"I think we're all on the same page that he will eventually be a Flyer," he said."

End of discussion.
