Daly spoke to the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation and and was told any player on the first year of an NHL entry-level contract who played in Europe this season would be allowed to come over and play in the AHL only. But, the player must return to his Swedish club by April 15 to play in tournament games and get ready for the World Championship.

Point is moot now that it's been pointed out that he cannot be called up to the Wings.

Thank you, I didn't know that. But my point was how can you blame the Wings for not giving him a cup of coffee if he can't actually do that? Or maybe I misread the whole point. In which case I apologize.

You didn't know it because it was something made up on the go. The Swedish HF could've stopped them(Fasth, Jarnkrok, maybe some other kid too) from going over to NA altogether this season but worked up this compromise. The World Champs at home is a very big deal for them this year after last year's fiasco.

I am confused, I thought we loaned him over there and the Wings have full control over Calle?

Swedish HF worked it into the transfer agreement with the NHL that any (Swedish) player assigned to play in Sweden can be kept to play in the World Champs. In return the NHL clubs can sign Swedes on already existing deals, to name one thing.

ok so 9 games that's not a lot but its enough to see what he do. what do we think he should be able to put up point wise? I have only seen him play once, and he wasn't on the score sheet plus I don't speak Swedish so I was kind of lost. for the few of you guys that have watched him play, could he be electric on a line with Tatar, and Jurco, or maybe Ferraro and pare. any info would be helpful.

Stay in Sweden then.
You're either on the team or you're not.

I wish this statement wasn't true but we won't see him in Detroit until at next season.

Seriously? I love this kid (for no good reason) and think he's the next captain... but we have enough "non-top-6 forwards" as it is. What difference does it make this season?

I wish people would have a little more perspective around here.

That's my point. Telling him to stay in Sweden is what I'm responding to.

Oh, i'm so sorry I didn't know the rules... when the person who was complaining about the rules that don't even exist gets away scott free. So I'm even more sorry that I'm not just a complainer/whiner like the only people who are allowed to post here even though I've been doing it for 12 years.

I just clarified the "rule", your post was the last on the matter so I quoted it. No need to be sorry for anything.

I was being facetious, but I appreciate you ignoring that. I just wish the Detroit board hadn't become so much complaining. I know I'm complaining about complaining, but as an older guy i feel like younger fans don't know how bad it can be.

I love coming here and I wish all conversations could be more productive... but I guess complaining is part of being a fan.

This will be a good 9-game appetizer for Jarnkrok, in terms of getting familiar with NA ice. Some good experience. Guess I'll have to tune into a couple more Griffins games.

Why not? Jacob Silfverberg did the same at last season for the Senators. Was signed for the Senators and spend the earlier part of the season at Sweden. Then came over the pond and played at two NHL-playoff games.

I'm really glad that he's playing in GR. But if he's going to bolt on the team before or in the middle of a playoff run, then no, I don't want him.

These guys in Grand Rapids have worked hard all year. And now they're getting their shot to win.

I don't like the idea of the roster being disrupted for a player unless he's there to help the win in the playoffs.

And Radulov with the Preds last year.

I don't know if the people saying he can't play in Detroit are correct.

I like that he will atleast get a taste of hockey over here and we can see what he has. Hopefully we shed a lot of dead weight and he gets a legit shot to play for the Wings next year. Of course that means 2 years in the AHL while he gets a few game stints here and there.

yes, he played playoff games for the sens and only returned to europe to play part of the WC after the sens were eliminated. if they had gone further, he would have missed the WC. what changed since last year?

They announced last night that thats what the rule was. It changed from last year. He cannot come up and play for the wings. He has to go back to Sweden by mid April.
