so the blues play Minnesota, Chicago, then us this week...not an easy schedule with the team hating Hitch right now

so basically the st louis games in hand are Minny, Minny, Dallas...

Edmonton's is basically Calgary and Anaheim

Dallas' Games in Hand are basically Anaheim and St Louis

Wow. I was just coming to post the St. Louis trade. I didn't see the Kings trade. Good trade for all teams involved, IMO.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: STL 1st rder is lottery protected for this yr. That is, IF STL misses 2013 playoffs, 1st rder defers to 2014, STL throws in 4th rder this yr
We are going to start seeing a lot of lottery protected picks with the new draft rules. This is how a lot of trades in the NBA are.

You don't even need me to vindicate Howson; every time Jay Feaster makes a trade, he does a better job without speaking than I could ever dream of doing.

That's like saying Don Waddell vindicated Doug MacLean.

Waddell was a better GM than MacLean though.

The games not over yet. And we'd only be in 9th if they win. We'll be in 10th when EDM beats Calgary.

Both of them bumbled around the trade market for a number of years. The difference was that, thanks to substantially better drafting, Atlanta was able to actually have some assets of value to work with, whether to keep or trade.

MacLean had Nash and Klesla. Waddell had Heatley, Kovalchuk, Enstrom, Pavelec, Coburn, Little, Bogosian, Kane, and Burmistrov.

I know...The timing sucks. Gosh it would be great if the Pens could put the Rangers on ice for good in these back to back games. I don't think they could recover to get in the playoffs at that point.

And tonight they beat the Jets. I was really hoping they'd lose the next three and be sellers at the deadline. Probably won't happen

The four catch-able teams ahead of us in the standings— Edmonton, St. Louis, Detroit and San Jose— all won tonight.

so, a game in hand, really was worth 2 on the points totals.

Is Miikka Kiprusoff sabotaging his trade value or has he just declined that much?

I treat games in hand much like I play blackjack. Always assume the next game (card) is 2 points (a 10)

Let the record reflect that the four pieces returned for Rick Nash are all better than the best four pieces in combined deals involving Jaromir Jagr, Jarome Iginla, Derek Roy, and Jay Bouwmeester.

But we didn't get Couture! Or Krieder!

Thanks, Howson, for cleaning up MacLean's toxic waste. Welcome, Kekalainen; let's get good things built!

Could that have to do with Nash being better and signed to a long term contract? Hmmmm.

No, why? Even if one were to cherry-pick the best four pieces from those four deals, any one of them falls short of what Nash returned.
