Patrick the used car salesman O. Heidi pretty but zero hockey i.q. going in A. The list goes way back. We have great hockey guys in LA that work for the Kings who would be great in front of the camera doing that job but we still go to the gong show reject talent agency for the job.

Wow, reading this post makes it sound like I actually care. Not really but DanM is the worst so far. I was kind of hoping that after winning the cup that we would get a real hockey person for that job and start having a more pro hockey team approach to our media. Maybe its better this way.
Yes sir. Exactly. Patty and Heidi both eventually grew on me and I think they both have learned the game a little more in their experience with the team. Both of them seem to genuinely love the Kings.

But I'd trade either of them in a heartbeat for someone who knows their stuff.

It was obvious Ken and Barbie and they had to learn the job.

This guy is more like Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street. He didn't get his job from either his looks or his hockey knowledge, so the only other way is through relatives in high positions.

That's the thing. In the end I liked Heidi and PatO is alright I guess but we are the cup champs and have allot of great former Kings in the L.A. area (or you have) who keep in touch with the team that would be a giant step up over what we constantly end up with.

I like having Foxy and Evans around for that reason and they have done a great job at their respective jobs. It wouldn't be hard to find another to do the rest of the stuff. If they are looking for a Fans POV sort of thing then they should just pick fans out of the crowd and let them ask a question or two into the camera and then broadcast the players responses. Good or bad smart or dumb it would be better than amateur hour that we are getting now.

Not a biggie but DanM weirds me out a ton.

Haha, I wonder if we'd still be complaining about the broadcasting if the score had been reversed last night.

About Cole.

Didn't know she was "demoted" to Ontario. Or maybe she just moved to the Inland Empire. Pretty sure she would've made the cut for the 2009-10 crew (her first year was 2008-09.) I still remember Drew checking her out while she was shoveling ice in front of the bench. He was even joking around with her when he wouldn't get out of her way (I sat behind the bench, the worst possible seats ever).

I know there are people who know hockey and have a halfway normal personality that can ask these players some decent questions without pandering to the crowd or anyone else. I really don't think it's too much to ask.
I'm not saying his interviews are not awkward. I'm not saying he's not bad. I just feel that when we quote what he's saying on this site, and then skew the quote to make him look worse than he actualy is is unneccesary and bad form. We all see what he is saying, so why dramatize and downright make things up to change our view of the guy?

You, me and the 99% of the population that is normal, this would work for.

But considering its live, right in front of (I assume) 16,000 people, you just know some dumb, drunk jackass will pop off a question about Dry Island, or 'Why did you **** my sister last night' or whatever dumbass comment they think off. You can't even pre-screen the question, because what they tell you they are going to ask, and what they do ask, are different things at times. Ever heard a radio call-in show get prank called? Same situation.

A better idea would be to have some form of a questionairre that fans get/can pick up and they submit their questions in the first period/intermission into a drop box. Set up an electronic drop box for fans to e-mail/text/whatever their questions as well. Then just pull a few random ones and ask them.

"Jim Bob in section A, row... wants to know..."

or

"Wilma Flintstone from Bedrock, Wisconsin, is curious why..."

That way the fans can ask the questions, just not directly, and it always makes some fans feel good when they get a shoutout when their question is used. Only drawback is DanM is likely the one asking the questions, and it seems like you guys don't like him. I'll refrain my judgment since I haven't actually heard him.

I can only imagine the questions I'd send in just to hear MoriParty read them.

"Hey Brownie, want to go out back and see my Trans Am?"

It's always good when someone sends in questions for an announcer/reporter with a language issue of some sort, such as an accent. You know they don't really care about the answer, just want to hear the question get butchered or make an awkward scene.

I would personally send in five or six questions from Hugh Janus

I have a question for Colin Fraser.

"Colin I drive a Prius and I don't want to seem like some tree hugging liberal, so I painted it to look like the General Lee"

What do you think?

Anyone who has ever see the clowns behind Patrick & Darryl on Kings Live or who has ever listened to Kings Talk on radio knows this is a BAD idea

That said, Moriarty is just awful. O'Neal is Vin Scully compared to that guy.

Kudos to referees Francis Charron and Wes McCauley for giving Kings fans opportunity to recognize Tyler Toffoli's first career goal.

They stopped play for about 20 seconds in order for Kings fans to give standing ovation. That's what makes the NHL special.

KF, I am passing along your suggestion everywhere I can and hope somebody listens. You are right on the money and that is a great idea. I would actually try and watch if that was how it was handled. Brilliant stuff. Allows a certain amount of control while getting the fan more involved. Smart way of handling things, I like it. You could even tie it into a promotion where if your question is selected you get a big mac for $4 bucks or something (instead of the $8 or $9 it must be now) .

I have to watch most of the games on NHL.com's "icetracker" function while listening on the radio. I get to watch the games and extra stuff after they happen most of the time until I get home. That said I would make a greater effort to pay attention of it was handled professionally or just plain old better with a bit more forethought.

I hear DanM lucked into his shot, I don't want to see anyone fail at anything where the Kings are concerned (I actively don't like M Smith and that is about it) so I hope smarter people get their heads together and find a way to make the guy work but I am not holding my breath this time.

Here's to hope though.

I thought Moriarty did a good job hosting the Cool Shots show, but the way he asks the questions on FSN is not that great. Guess it's a good thing the discussion in the PGT is about who should be doing the fill-some-air-time interviews

Dan Moriarty doing his thing back in 2007...

Someone had posted some clips of Moriarty with Luc Robitaille on NHL Cool Shots back from 1994 but I can't find those clips. Wonder if Luc had anything to do with the hire...
