WSH - MTL (Ribeiro)

Washington Capitals trade: Mike Ribeiro

Montreal Canadiens trade: Danny Cristo + 1st

Habs boost their offense for a reasonable price. Caps get pretty solid value back (imo).

Thoughts?

Kristo but wouldn't make a lot of sense.

We've got three centers that are playing well (Plekanec +Eller +Desharnais)

and when Bourque and Prust return we'll have too much foward on the lineup that can play top 9.

Plus it's a steep price for Ribeiro. One of our best offensive prospects + 1st, nah won't happening.

Maybe you could get that from a team with a real need for centerman

Plekanec, Desharnais and Eller already at centre. Galchenyuk is playing winger. Why would we need to trade for Ribeiro? Kristo is on of our best offensive prospects and a 1st in a really deep draft.

Too much for Ribeiro and this trade just doent make sense for Montreal.

Habs have no need for another center and IMO this is MASSIVE overpayment for a rental player at Ribeiro level and contractual situation...

Yes Mike as an unreal season but let's be honest here he is far from a proved playoff performer. He is not the type off player that would buy in the Therrien system and the whole team chemistry would suffer from is presence in the room.

Habs already have 5 NHL level centers (1 of them plays on the wing) and the only way they swap one of them is for either a HUGE upgrade witch Ribeiro is not...

Let's get real here IF the Habs had any interest in Ribeiro(witch they don't) they would not pay more then a low 2nd rounder + prospect for him...

IMO

Habs own 2013 second rounder
Olivier Archambault (spelling?)

for

Mike Ribeiro

Kristo + 2013 1srt is a Bob Gainey type move

AND AGAIN I'M NOT SAYING HABS WOULD BE INTERESTED... just spit balling here!

Fair enough. I've seen rumors say that the asking price is a 1st + B prospect. Since he's not the type of player the Habs need, I feel that the value is pretty fair. Cristo is a good prospect but not at all top of the line. But since they dont need a center, the bargaining price would be different on their end.

Kristo (I hope anyway) is not going anywhere....

I don't think we are a good match for Ribeiro... we would be looking to add a gritty net-clearing d-man in my estimation.

would be interested in Erskine perhaps... but he does have a long contract (maybe hurt).

Habs dont really need Ribs, no need to pay that price for a rental.

Fair enough, but if that is the rumor, Ribs will be a Cap through April. I cannot see any team paying that kind of price for such a short stint, even if he is having a fantastic season - maybe Toronto since they are desperate to make the playoffs.

No he doesn't.

It's a fair offer. Maybe he doesn't want another center, or doesn't want Ribeiro in particular, but it's far from a ridiculous ask.

I think teams in general will be holding on a bit tighter to their first rounders this year. Deep draft and with the shortened season and no cross conference play, it's going to be hard to call who's a real contender.

Thus, my 2 cents is Ribs gets you a 2nd, and B-C prospect. But ya it won't be from Montreal.

Does not help the habs at all. They need a totally different kind of player. Also that is too much for him. IMO

There are a lot of teams that'll be interested in Ribeiro, but I really doubt Montreal would be one of them. That said...

I'd rather have Clowe than Ribeiro too. It's just indicative of where the Habs needs are perceived at, that's all. And a smaller offensive center is just so far away from the Habs' needs, that's why you get such responses. It of course doesn't help from the fan perspective that Ribeiro was not well-liked for his antics as a Hab. But regardless of that, the Habs are almost certainly one of the worst teams you could approach to try to maximize your return on Ribeiro. You might very well get the 1st+B prospect from some other team, of course. Just not the Habs.

I agree with him, why would the habs give up a 1st for something they already have and dont need at all. If they will give it up, they will give it up for something they desprately need.

They need Clowe 100x more than they need Ribiero

Ribeiro has been in Montreal before. We know what and who he is... Keep him and Godspeed. A small, anti physical, floater is not what this team needs.

Clowe is everything we need. Big, nasty, physical, proven goal scorer and can drop the gloves.

Basically the opposite of everything Ribeiro is what we need. Giving up a 1st rounder and Danny "Cristo" isn't happening. Especially for a UFA that's known to have less heart then the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz.

Let me get this straight... if you guys were forced to choose between Ryane Clowe (who at this point is little more than an enforcer; can't skate, can't score, can't control the puck) or Mike Ribeiro (fifth most productive center in the league, tied with Markov for most PP points, a locker room leader in Washington), you would unanimously choose Clowe?

What did Ribeiro do to you guys?

Do you watch Clowe? He's stupid, slow and not a goalscorer. He's more of a playmaker than goalscorer. Not worth a first imo, and I'm a big Sharks and Habs fan.

The non goal scoring Clowe has had seasons of 16, 17, 19, 22 and 24 goals prior to this season.

You sure you've been watching real close?
