Year 2, Norris Trophy, maybe it takes more then 30-ish games to decide on a player. Geez

Edit: I'm NOT saying Schultz is Karlsson, just saying maybe we shouldn't write him off yet.
Karlsson
a) was 20yo in that referenced season, vs Schultz at 22

b) Produced 23 ESP in 75games. At Schultz's current pace, he'd put up 7 ESP in the same amount of games. At age 22.

c) Led the Sens in ice-time, as a 20-year old. Hardest competition every night. He was not a good defensive player, and it showed, with a -30 ranking.
Schultz is being insulated in a 2nd pairing role as a 22 year old and is on pace to finish -30 over the course of an 82 game schedule. He's playing just as bad defensively as a younger Karlsson, versus easier competition.

These 2 players aren't even in the same class IMO. To take Karlsson's progress as he moved from ages 20-22 as a predictor of what Schultz will undergo as a 22-24 year old is just dumb.

Matheson confirming the Oiler pitch to Dekeyser, including Schutlz's involvement.

Quote:
Just so happens Schultz had Don Meehan as his representative last summer and Meehan is DeKeyser’s advisor, which might not hurt their chances to get their hands on the 23-year-old Western Michigan captain who has strong puck-moving skills but, for now, is known as a very good defensive D-man. About 20 NHL teams are in the hunt.

Would a deal like this be plausible? Admittedly I'm not too sure how highly Stone is viewed in Ottawa (which is why I added possible additions to the deal), but he is ranked outside of the Senator's top 5 on hockeys future. Sens get a dman, that could definitely help them with all their injuries and their playoff push. Oilers get a big player that could potentially be developed into a winger to ride shotgun with RNH/Eberle in the future. Thoughts?
hmmmm. that's interesting. Stone's a big boy with a sweet set of hands. is he fast enough? not sure. definitely interesting.

Yes, quite easily. His defensive game IMO is similar to that of J.Schultz - a ways to go in that department.

His offensive potential will never touch Schultz's, however.

Some Sharks fans would have been happy to see Murray waived let alone go for two 2nd's. I think some people are overrating Murray here. His game has definitely dropped since 2-3 years ago when he was a beast.

Looks like Briere is going to be out for a while for Philly. I know they have been struggling this season, but maybe this will make Holmgren take an interest in Hemsky.

He's been just as bad, if not worse, than Whitney this year. Atrocious hockey sense, slow, and poor positioning.

They currently only have Gonchar who is a legit puck mover, Weircioch is doing good I think, but is still a rookie. Aside from those two they have no one. And to further this they have Phillips and Lundin currently on their 2nd PP unit. So Whitney could definitely be help to them, and due to the fact there are few sellers, I am thinking he could easily get a similar return to Murray.
I think there are few PMD buyers too though.

Most play-off teams don't have a pure PMD on their 3rd pairing. They have their PMD in the top4 and Whitney definitely isn't a top4 D on a play-off team.

Yup on both accounts, is there a difference in the Sens even strength scoring from last year and the Oilers, or are they close to the same

We get it, you win, Schultz not good or something.

He has a no-trade and the Flyers have had trouble convincing him to waive it to go anywhere.

Yes, Schultz has failed to help us turn into a quick-transition, productive team at even strength.

Karlsson single-handedly did that for Ottawa.

@HackswithHaggs

Per hockey source, the Bruins are in on trade talks w/some other top-6 forwards aside from Jarome Iginla

I guess the question is, is it too late to call the experiment a failure and move him, has too much damage been done?

No Boychuk tonight for Bruins. McQuaid likely done for rest of reg. season. There's more to BOS 4/3 shopping list than help up front.

Has nothing to do with dealing him. They might need to get someone in to fill the gap

According to two separate reports out of Boston today, #Flames could target G Malcolm Subban in Iginla trade talks with Bruins

Obviously not. But I think it's time we temper expectations for every player that joins our team. It's ridiculous how much we project in terms of production and role for each youngster.

High point production (mostly on the PP) in the AHL isn't a good predictor for future NHL top-pairing performance. It means a useful PP player - which Schultz has easily become. I don't think he will EVER be a Norris candidate.

He's got a ways to go defensively before becoming a legitimate top 4 defenseman, but it's worth the wait. At the very least he turns into a JM Liles.

I wonder if they would. I've heard they really like Ramo and that they have decent depth at the goalie position other then Kipper sucking. Although to be honest I have no idea what Iggy goes for now.

Brendan Morrow (close to Ryan Smyth Done) got a top Defensive prospect

Douglas Murray (Sharks fans are glad to be rid of him) got 2 2nd

I don't know what the going rate will be on Hemsky, but if that's it, you keep him because those are atrocious deals.

Philly probably tries to convince us on Talbot.

Boston, I might go off the grid and convince them that we'll take Kelly+. Curious how MacDermid is on their farm team.
