I would have traded Hemsky for Clowe absolutely 2-3 years ago.

Being a decent Sharks fan, I've watched a number of regular season games and most of their playoff games the last several years.

Clowe was a wrecking ball of a player, similar to a Lucic or Dustin Brown. It did seem like he was beginning to get injured more often and he was pretty invisible in last year's playoffs, against a physical, tough St. Louis team.

Now given his abysmal struggles this year (4th line or DNP), I'd still be interested, but not for a ton of $.

It could be that he simply needs a change of scenery, or it could be that years of playing hard and getting hurt have added up and he'll never be the same.

PRV and Smid, hmm

I wouldn't trade MPS if I'm EDM. He is finally showing signs of development.

As for Smid.....I'd like the team to resign him. If not, then I'd want more than Bishop in return and would expect more based on the what the prices have been in this current market. Don't blame the Sens for not wanting to pay up though as they have a good thing going there. Good luck in the playoffs.

I understand if we acquire him early we can potentially avoid the UFA market and save a couple million and/or a few years in term if he's resigned, but it's risky at this point if we give anything of value.

And if there's a rumour he's got a shoulder issue, there's a possibilty he wouldn't even pass the physical to be moved.

No interest in dealing MPS at the moment. He is exactly what we have been needing in our top 6.

Need more than Bishop for Smid.

I'd do Whitney for Clowe in a heartbeat, but not much more than that.

I want to see Whitney and Khabby moved for something other than picks. 2nd rounders don't do much for this team right now or even in the near future.

He's been consistent up to this point, plays the way the Oilers need in a second line role, and isn't quite in the area of "dramatic drop-off" territory of 32 - 34 years of age. Not a frontline player, but a step in the right direction for the Oilers that has zero physical presence in the top 9.
ryan smyth was fairly consistent up until this last year as well,

Sure, but that's because he fell off the edge of the earth roughly the same time every year for the past bunch.

Smyth was 35, he was tailing off before he was even traded to LA. Clowe is 30, and probably still has a couple of good years left in him.

He was, but he's been done since this time last year, so if you can move him along anyway, anyhow you have to do it.

I honestly feel like MPS would get us a pretty valuable return at this point.

That being said, I don't want to trade him

He does feel like the odd man out though, we're talking about the "kids and yakupov" 24/7

MPS is quietly making the most of his role with a good attitude and being ok with Renny using his airmiles on the various trips between OKC and edmonton last year (and even going back to OKC on the same day when management ****ed up on the call up rules LOL)

He's starting to slowly come around and it would be a colossal mistake to trade him at this point.

It's for this reason why I'm scared that it's going to happen too

Ryan Whitney to Ottawa for Mark Stone.
Trade a one of our 2nds to Philadelphia for Max Talbot.
Jones/Belanger/Smyth for whatever you can get.
Sign Horton.
Roll this next year:

Hall/Horcoff/Hemsky
Horton/RNH/Eberle
Paajarvi/Gagner/Yakupov
Brown/Talbot/Jones
Harti/Petrell

So easy

Do you see Smid being re-signed?
Im sure BM has already inquired as he's had a thing for him since his Anaheim days. (Heatley trade as well).
Figured since Smid is UFA and Bishop is RFA that it may be a good starting point for a trade.

I saw him a few weeks ago vs the Flames. He is a cross between Penner and Smyth. Old, slow, not physical but enough smarts to keep himself employed.

He did not look like a winner and would be a very bad example for our kids. Lazy, lazy player

When you consider what the market has to offer, I don't think we're making a good choice acquiring an underperforming UFA-to be and paying the market premium against playoff contenders like Boston (where I think he'll end up).

Tambellini was smart bringing in Fistric early and paying only a 3rd.

Murray is in the same category of defenders and he brought in a hell of a lot better return.

If Smid gets dealt, I would bank money on it being Detroit for a 1st round pick. Detroit does that type of trade every single year.

Wouldnt mind signing Bozak in offseason for 2.75- 3 mil. Play him as our 3rd-4th line center. Decent shutdown center option and provides more offense than the Belanger triangle. Takes over Horcoff spot as 3rd line center at end of next season

Yes, Smid should be re-signed.

Brian Bishop is worth a 2nd rounder at best in this goaltender market.

And when you consider what Douglas Murray just brought in, Smid is worth a valuable prospect and a 1st from a playoff contender.

There isn't a trade there, IMO.

That's all folks. If Tambellini surprises us, we'll see a Smid extension, and possibly a Nick Schultz trade. Oscar Klefbom himself compares his game to Nick Schultz, if the Oiler scouts see it the same then Schultz won't be around for much longer because Klefbom can just take his spot.
The oilers have stated repeatedly that they are not wanting to deal for picks anymore. Even if the trade would be much better to get picks they will go for some jag player.

I would MUCH rather re-sign Smid to a deal for a "little" more money than I would like. Trading him away for a late 1st round pick doesn't help.

Who takes Smid's spot? This teams needs to surround the youth with experience not more picks.

If that's the case, then expect Whitney and Belanger to stay, and expect us to move Nick Schultz for sure.

why? Because he has had years in which he scored 16,22,19,24,17 goals and points wise he has scored 52,57,62 and 45

I totally agree that this is buyer beware as he has fallen off the face of the earth this year but a big guy who is tough who has produced what he has in the past is not bad.
