Max Talbot Available

Per Andy Strickland

Quote:
The Flyers are willing to part with Max Talbot and a number of teams are apparently kicking tires here. Several sources suggest St. Louis is one of them.

Talbot is a proven playoff performer who can play center or wing. When acquiring a player like this you dont wonder if he can fill a role because hes already done it.

He has three years left on his deal after this year with his salary going down each season. Talbot brings a $1.750 cap hit.
http://www.truehockey.com/articles/W...us-Blues-Clues

Every time I see the Flyers, Talbot seems to be one of the few players hustling, creating chances. He'd be an excellent pick-up for a younger team who needs a playoff performer. In that sense, I could see someone like the Oilers or Leafs being interested. Another team I could see interested would be Boston, as if you believe they're a Cup contender, they're likely going to have to go up against Pittsburgh and Talbot generally plays his best hockey against his former team.

Talbot would be an amazing fit on almost any team, so versatile, he can find a niche anywhere.

I doubt the Leafs could give anything of value for him, and will be easily out bid but would love having him in Toronto, even if it sort of adds to our issue off not enough size down the middle.

Great. Now we get to do the this all over again?

To summarize:
- Flyers fans believe that Talbot's real value is a 2nd round pick +, but that it will take more than that to move him because he is signed for three more years.
- Montreal fans believe he is either a late 2nd or late 3rd (depending on who you ask), and that the Flyers will certainly trade him for that if offered.
- A 2nd round pick has a 15 percent chance of becoming a regular, long-term NHL contributor.

EDIT: The point, basically, is that Flyers fans believe that the Flyers will not move him without a surprisingly good return, whereas the Habs fans who posted in that thread believe that he can be had for the highest bid (which they think will or should be a late 2nd or late 3rd)

- Flyers fans believe that Talbot's real value is at least 2nd round pick, but that the team would (or should) be reluctant to give him up for a 2nd that because he is signed long-term on a good contract and can always be flipped for roughly the same return later.

So Philly is looking for straight picks?

He won't get a 1st, but realistically it should be more than a 2nd.

We will see.

2nd + 3rd or 2nd + 4th?

If possible, I think the Flyers would like to move: Meszaros, Briere, possibly Talbot, possibly Coburn, and any of the spare parts not named Gagne.

I'd offer Philly either Matt D'Agostini or one of our 2ds this year, their choice.

Sounds like they agree?

What does D'Agostini bring to the table to make the Flyers want to move Talbot for him?

I think the Flyers would realistically like a young defenseman.

I shudder to think what Holmgren would want from Pittsburgh for Talbot.

Nothing. Just a numbers game in St. Louis with the forwards coming back healthy. He's a serviceable NHL player but our wingers are:

LW: Perron, Steen, Schwartz, McDonald, Sobotka
RW: Oshie, Tarasenko, Stewart

So you see why he isn't getting the playing time when those guys are healthy.

Philly can have their pick of one of our (Habs) seconds or I might be inclined to trade a low tier prospect. Weber comes to mind.

Yannick Weber?

I'd do that for Talbot. I'd much prefer Thrower though .

It's a fair point. He's mostly a serviceable winger and is RFA. I'd suspect the Blues would offer futures rather than a young defenseman. They might move Cole but only if they acquire the long-sought top-pairing LHD in a separate deal.
