I've always liked Stajan, but it would depend on the price tag and whether or not we could get someone else like Roy who may be a little better fit for around the same cost.

And to whomever it was that suggested Pavelki, I would be all over that as a Ducks fan depending on the price, but I'm not convinced that SJ would really want to deal a player like that within their division in exchange for pieces we'd be willing to part with.

I'm sure some prospects would potentially be in play if the deal was right, but not the top prospects in the system (ie Etem, Lindholm) for a rental.

I know I'm really late to this party but I hope Mike Ribiero's name was brought up as an option. Him or Derek Roy.

Etem isn't being traded. We also won't take on that contract.

No but our top offensive prospect for 2 months of an aging center not likely to resign? How stupid does that sound.

No way they trade him in division to us. But I wish.

The price tag would probably be a prospect equivalent to a 2nd round pick. The Flames management M.O. seems to be attempting to find gems in the ruff amongst other team's prospect pools.

I guarantee that the Flames already have someone in mind on each of the contender's teams.

The majority of the youth are already up and playing with us this year. The only exceptions would be Rakell (But he might spend the whole year in the AHL next year) and Lindholm (Would have been given a better shot of making the team this year if he wasn't injured).

Ducks are making a push to go deep into the playoffs. We can't afford to trade a guy like Sbisa. That would leave a big hole in our D. Also, Sbsia is on a SWEET deal for the Ducks that takes him into RFA.

The Avs aren't eating any of Stastny's contract. The only reason to move him is to free up space. You're asking the Avs to split up Stastny's value into two lesser players and then lose the main advantage of the trade, which is cap space.

Then it is not gonna work out because we cannot afford to pay him 6.6.

What exactly would they free up space for? The only way the Av's are going to get any value for Stas is to eat a portion of cap space which they can definitely afford. Now if you are talking actual dollars, that is possible considering the Av's have been penny pinchers for a while now.

Agreed Stasny makes too much.

Also knowing Murray we'll be looking for a rental (and one costing 2nd round pick or a player we don't seeing fit in our future) or a guy signed for 2+ years after this one in which case we'll give up some real assets (Holland/DSP/Bonino/Sbisa/Vaatanen/1st round pick/etc.)

Ribeiro was traded because him and Koivu couldn't co exist.

Doubt Anaheim is a destination for him.

The Avs would be much better off targetting a defenceman who is high end (IE young and top pairing) yet overpaid and struggling, if they are expected to retain Stastny's salary.

Even then, I don't see it. A lot of teams continue to have interest in Stastny despite his salary. Stastny's contract only has one more year on it after this. It's far from a franchise binding contract.

It just doesn't make sense for the Ducks to go after it. With Perry and Getzlaf extensions of 8+ million, the Ducks are a very unlikely team to acquire another 6+ mil forward. The package of second pairing d-man and prospect with second line potential was far from competitive to being with.

If the deal is right, the Sharks could trade Pavelski to the Ducks. What would the Ducks offer? Ideally the Sharks are looking for young top 6 winger, picks, prospects.

I personally would offer 2 of Holland/DSP/1st.

Ducks don't have a young top six that they could part with. Trading for someone like Pavs is to fill a hole in the lineup. Moving Palmieri (who I'm sure all sharks fans want) or another top six, just opens another hole.

Sharks fans might, but your team won't. You're still in the hunt for a playoff spot.

Filpula seems to be the answer. He's a rental, Detroit could be looking for youth, and they won't be in the same Conference next season. Also the Ducks have a surplus of goaltenders (Hiller, Fasth, Gibson) and could potentially move one in a package.

Matt Stajan? He is solid defensively and plays best in an offensive system, can probably be had for a 2nd.
