Derek Roy has a better +/- than any other player on either team involved in the trade

Hey kids!

I have a great idea!

Let's work out a deal where we get Gaustad back from Nashville, Roy back from Dallas, Connolly back from the AHL, Kalinin and Afinagenov back from timbuk-2, Drury back from his den, and----WAIT...

Let's just get a time machine, go back to June 1, 2006...10:17 into the 3rd to be precise, and tell Brian Campbell to make sure the ****ing puck hits the ****ing glass as it flies outa play!

Roy was never the problem with this team. This town has a big problem. Every time our sports teams struggle, it's "get rid of this guy, get rid of that guy". We never think, maybe we should supplement the guys we already have. And so the cycle continues.

No, it's a slight at people who think "intangibles" exist.

Intangibles do exist, but they can't be measured.

(We've been through this, with much laughter, before.)

As to whether they are relevant to hockey, that's another de-bait I'm not taking.

Edit* Actually, this could work. Maybe we could trade Ott to Vancouver. Re-acquire Roy in the off season. Trade Roy for Ott and Sulzer during the summer. Done deal.

[Insert Michael Scott 'No' Clip]

Edit: lol - see it only took until post 7 to get that response. Fits well, as does the McEnroe clip (bonus points for using the less obvious clip)

There is a reason Dallas is likely to let Roy walk, and Buffalo is unlikely to let Ott walk.

Things that are intangible do indeed exist.

"Intangibles" do not.

I agree with you on this point, and suggest it is common anytime a city has a losing sports team. However, in the case of Roy, he was in fact part of the problem with this team IMO.

And that's why 95% of his posts about trades, players, direction of team, fans, games etc... are

Time and time again, non stop.

Roy was part of the problem.

Hits are not an intangible but a component of building a championship team. IMO.

It's funny how we replaced "part of the problem" with "part of the solution" and the team got significantly worse.

Correlation =/= causation. Other factors at play here. Ott for Roy was a move in the right direction for this franchise, even if that isn't reflected in our record over the past 30 games.

there is no objective measurement of dedication... so we refer to it as an "intangible" quality of a player

It's commonly used in the sports world

give it a rest webster
