In your opinion, are the Jets more popular than the Bombers right now in terms of media attention, radio talk, just fan passion overall? Or is this a town that loves both teams and deep down the Bombers will be # 1? It is tough to say since the Jets just came back over a year ago. My cousin believes this will always be a football town and the Jets will be second fiddle eventually.
The Bombers are probably one of the most inept organizations in ALL of sports (from top to bottom). It's literally baffling how terrible they are. You'd think every once in a while they'd trip over themselves and win the grey cup... 75% of the teams make the playoffs for crying out loud. I actually root against them for that reason, it's great fun.
While I do like watching the CFL and particularly the Bombers. It does suck that they haven't been the greatest team. It's #2 overall in the city, but man in the summer and beginning of fall what else is there to (somewhat) cheer for in the Peg? I don't mind going to Goldeyes games either.
What I hate the most is when the Bombers actually do well and everyone goes on the bandwagon once again, it happens all the time.
I'm a bigger Bombers fan than Jets fan. But I am a much bigger hockey fan than I am football fan. So try and figure that one out, cause I can't.
In the city in general Jets are much bigger, but that doesn't mean that the Bombers are even close to suffering for fans or popularity. I've even managed to convince most of NFL fan friends to be Bomber fans since once they actually watch the games they realize how much more exciting the CFL game is and realize it's more like NHL-KHL rather than NHL-AHL in terms of talent distribution (because of different playing styles)
Is that twitterspeak? Urgh, me hates twitter. Kids are on my lawn!
Anyways, I'm a bigger Jets fan than Kings fan (barely Jets are for sure 1a ). Although I do plan on wearing my Kings jersey next year to the game, since last year it was a great time when I wore my Brown jersey...
Based on what I've heard, the Bombers were traditionally a very big deal, so you could make that argument in the WHA/early NHL days. However, the CFL is not on the level it used to be and the NHL has pretty rapidly expanded since 1979, so the Jets.
However, anyone who says the Bombers have no significant role as an important sports team in the city is out of their mind. Winnipeg is a strong CFL city; always has been always will be. The best part is that both NHL and CFL co-extist beautifly and are both well supported. Win win.
I'm a big Bomber fan. But the Jets will always be number 1 no matter what. I only started watching football 2 years ago ( watched it before then, but took the time to understand it then ) I've only been to one Bomber game, 25-20 vs BC in 2011. Its was a great experence and am trying to go to more this year. But I will always be a die hard Jets fan and they will always be number 1.
