The Dilbury, Wang era! Pick your choice of years. Shoot roll them all into a decade and look at that instead.

we have definetly had worse teams than this one.
all the teams from 95-96 to 00-01 were pretty dismal

Whichever one of your teams had Tom Chorske on it. I just remember you guys were beyond dreadful that year.

Just went on hockeydb and checked out some of those rosters

Sadly, I used to go to a ton of games those years thanks to student discount tickets, those were some dark times...

Probably one of the mid- to late-90s teams....but honestly, I've blocked that era from memory, so I don't recall just how bad they were. It helped that I was in college and couldn't follow as closely as I usually did.

But in recent memory, the 2008-09 team was pretty darn bad.

The worst by far would be the 72-73 Islanders. Winners of 12 out of 78 games. I think the 2000-01 Islanders (won 21 out of 82) and the 73-74 Islanders (won 19 out of 78) would be tied for 2nd worst.

well at least the 72-73 team had the excuse of being an expansion franchise.
they then made the playoffs and went to the conference finals in their 3rd season.
the Mid 90's teams missed the playoffs for 7 years and lost in the 1st round when they finally did make the playoffs.

Stats wise 72-73 was the worst seasion. This may be hard to believe, as that seaon went on,
I felt good about what the team was doing. Bil Torrey made some small but good moves
which lead to the what happened 74-75 and beyond. During that fist seaon we knew Denis Potvin
coming. It was an exciting time-I know I was there to see it happen.

The teams in the late 90s were just horrible, along with those jerseys. I remember painfully watching those games. And we think attendance is bad now, look at attendance back in those years...ouch!

98-99 - top 5 scorers:
Robert Reichel - 70gp - 19-37-56
Palffy - 50gp - 22-28-50
Trevor Linden - 82gp - 18-29-47
Bryan Smolinski - 82gp - 16-24-40
Mariusz Czerkawksi - 78gp - 21-17-38

Other players on that team - Mark Lawrence 60gp, Mike Watt 75gp, Barry Richter 72gp, David Harloch 70gp....

Now that is a miserable miserable team...go check out HockeyDB and just shake your head at some of the misery we've been through over the years...or actually, don't even do

The expansion team doesn't count. EVERY expansion team blows.

This is a toss up between two teams (at least in my memory)

1995-96 : First year of the fishstick jersey and boy was that team bad. Ziggy Palffy was the ONLY reason to watch that team.

2000-01 : That team was just bad. Oleg Kvasha, Jeff Toms, Aris Brimanis, Mike Stapleton... shall I continue?

I sense sarcasm, but I actually liked Doug Houda. He was beyond whatever prime he had when he was with the Islanders, but he still brought some snarl.

Just brutal, but they get a mulligan since they were the first Islander team. But still the worst.

What was the year when every team the Isles won at the end of the season, a player had to bleach his hair blond?

Disregarding the expansion year and the two lockout seasons, the team with the least points in a season was the 2000-01 team.

From a random boxscore in January 2001 (a 6-3 loss to Chicago) - this was the roster

Forwards: Jason Blake, Tim Connolly, Mariusz Czerkawski, Oleg Kvasha, Claude Lapointe, Mark Lawrence, Steve Martins, Bill Muckalt, Mark Parrish, Taylor Pyatt, Dave Scathchard, Jeff Toms

Defensemen: Aris Brimanis, Zdeno Chara, Garry Galley, Roman Hamrlik, Branislav Mezei, Anders Myrvold

Goaltenders: Wade Flaherty, John Vanbiesbrouck

I'm not sure of the exact year off the top of my head, and I'm sure the early 70s Islanders were pretty terrible but I wasn't alive, whatever year Czerkawski was our one and only star was probably the worst year I've ever seen.

Second was the year of the Joey MacDonald/Yann Danis goalie rotation.

Not to throw logs on this fire, but this current rebuild/cheap-out era is coming up on 6 yrs...

Any team on which Travis Green was expected to be a leading scorer.
