Steve Simmons was just on the radio and said he's heard there is up to 5 teams interested in Komisarek, just not at 4.5 million.

Similar to Connolly, if Komi plays well in the AHL he should be traded with the Leafs retaining part of the cap hit.

For all the crap he gets as a player, I don't think any of us would have any reason to say anything bad about the guy as a person. He seems like a genuine guy, great teammate and while I'm sure he wanted to play on the Leafs or anywhere in the NHL for that matter, I don't doubt that he'll take his great attitude to the Marlies and give them some solid veteran presence. He also shouldn't feel too out of place with Connolly there as well. The AHL is a downgrade but for a guy who hasn't played a whole lot this season, it gives him the opportunity to get some playing time. The quality of competition may not be as fierce but under Eakins, he has a good chance of working on some of the holes in his game - as long as he's willing to change bad habits.

Why would anyone want to trade for Komisarek now when they could have picked him up for nothing? Everyone knows he's a 7-8 dman with a 4.5m cap hit. If his play was any good, he would have stayed with the big club. So why in the next two weeks, a GM would say I want Komi? He still has another year in his contract. The only way he makes it back in the NHL is either a) injuries and Leafs have to call him up or b) gets bought out this summer and signs a deal in the ranger of 1 to 2 m a year

Its just like my fellow Habs fan who put Kaberle in every trade rumor. C'mon, They`re calling up Greg Pateryn and Tinordi instead of putting this guy on the ice. Like Komisarek he still has one year on his contract so no other team would want that. His faith is the same a Komisarek.

anyways that's my opinion. I think sometimes we overvalue the players in our teams. Im guilty of it sometimes and I think some of you might be in Komisarek. If Nonis pulls a trade where he gets more than a bag of pucks and a case a beer, he's a genius

Komisarek's a big body, should add some presence to the Marlies defensive game

Simple, the Leafs could retain salary in any deal.

It's actually the only thing that makes any sense in all this.

By letting him play in the AHL they are actually taking on some injury risk that could cck block a amnesty buy out in the summer.

What Simmons said does hold some sense.

A team may want to send some cap back and want him to gets some game action in the mean time.

Heck or it could just mean that we want to get him some game action in and hold him as some PO push depth.

The injury risk is not a factor at all.

everything makes sense here - if Komi didn't have a NMC he would have been waived down to the minors long ago.

Yup, I for one am glad Komi cleared. He's a HUGE upgrade for the Marlies whom are a legit calder contender.

Komi paired with Rielly? Yes please. Very good experience for the kid.

What's the rush with this buyout talk? Leafs could easily place him in the minors again next season and have it only cost them $900,000 on their cap, or if he's seriously injured he could go on LTIR and not count at all.

Will he have to go through re-entry if we want him back some time this season? I really want him to be Phanuef's partner at one point before being tossed away.

We got rid of SLA.
CK is in the Marlies. Only a matter of time.

IIRC, his cap hit would be 900k less then what it is now, not a total of 900k. So a hit of 3.6m for him being in the AHL next season if the worst case happens.

And if his LTIR only lasts long enough to pass the compliance window then what?

Because no GM wants him at a 4.5 million cap hit. If the Leafs retain say 1.5 million of his cap hit, a GM may think it's a bit more palatable to have Komi on his team for 3 million next season. Teams also want to scout him in the AHL before trading for him, which is another reason why no one picked him up off waivers.

Komi is tradable in your scenario. And if he shows enough with the Marlies in the next 2 weeks to attract a trading partner, the Leafs can probably get back something that would be considered an asset too....a draft pick maybe.

Then we carry his $3.6M cap hit on the payroll. Leafs aren't exactly squeezed up against the cap next year (~$20M in space) and the UFA options are pretty slim. Can't see us going right up to the limit.

I think it's a worthwhile risk to take for Komi to prove himself in the AHL and hopefully turn himself into a tradeable asset. I don't feel we would have made this move if there wasn't some real interest out there. I feel with the right system and the right minutes he could be a useful type for a playoff team. Could see him flourish in St. Louis, for example. I don't think the money works out in that scenario, though.

Him getting a long-term injury which prevents us from buying him out in the summer is the absolute worst case scenario. I would rather we make decisions based on most-likely outcomes rather than being overly risk averse.

He has an opportunity to help his Leafs' mates much more now. If mentoring is his thing.

And with the extra time he will get to make on-ice decisions, it wouldn't surprise me if he became top four material down there.

Boz 4/5m?
Mac 2.5/3.0m?
Orr 1m?
