Eakin Vs. Iginla

The headline is correct...wow! More of dancing than fighting. Eakin lands a good right and ends up being an even fight.

As a Stars fan I couldn't possibly call that an even fight. Was immediately obvious that it was a mismatch, and Iginla definitely let up on Eakin.

Still, was neat to see Eakin try.

Eakin caught Iginla with a right hand right on the jaw.

Yes, we all saw that slow mo replay.

It doesn't change anything with regards to the fact that Eakin looked totally outmatched.

Of course Eakin is outmatched, though he didn't seem as small as I thought he was compared to Iginla.

Video added.

I'd call that a win for Iginla; nice of Eakin to step up to it, though.

Yeah, Iggy with the win not much of a fight mind you.

And like you said, good a Eakin for actually stepping up.

Didn't seem to do much though, head didn't even move much. Slow motion made that look like a better hit than it was, more of a glancing blow....

Pretty clear win for Iggy there... I find it funny that the one punch landed by Eakins is brought up to somehow make it even when Iggy was clearly taking it easy to start and then just pummeled him down after the punch landed

Good for Eakin to stand up against Iggy. I've always liked the kid. His speed and passion stood out to me from an early age and I always thought he'd become a solid NHL player.

"Good for him." No. What an incredibly stupid decision. Iginla could've ended his career if that went badly. And it VERY easily could've gone badly.

Any fight can end anyone's career at any given time...stop being a hockey fighting pacifist. Eakin realized his team needed a spark and said screw it and decided to drop the gloves.

I'm a big fighting fan. And, heck, this was entertainment. But it would've stopped being entertainment the second Iginla dropped this guy so hard his melon puts a crack in the ice.

Bottom line is, twigs like Eakin shouldn't try to play tough-guy when they're going up against guys who're much bigger, stronger, smarter and flat-out better than him. Getting the drums played on your face for the sake of a spark is one thing, but he might've already suffered brain damage if he pulls this again, only against a guy without Iginla's class, someone who won't take it easy on him.

He was able to get Calgary's most dangerous (arguably) player off the ice for 5 minutes. A pretty good exchange if you ask me, and I'm sure the Dallas coaching staff would agree. Gutsy play IMO.

That Eakin agreed to this fight is the amazing part. This ended up being pretty even. On Iggy's end, he's not unfamiliar to fighting---he has over 50 fights in his career.
