Anyways Lupul will likely get 1-2 games on it, it was an illegal hit. He can argue all he wants he didnt "mean" to hit him there, but if you watch the replay his elbow goes UP and gets him in the head. It doesn't matter the intent, it's that he was reckless and needs to learn from his bad behaviour.
I'm guessing he gets a least 1 game and maybe 2 for it as it is worthy of a suspension.

Hits to the head are frown upon, and unfortunately what Lupul did was against the rules.

The last replay in that video shows the Lupul didn't really touch Hedmans head.

Wish I knew how to take still frames.

2 games easily. Lupul has been reckless the last couple of games.

I don't think that is relevant to the ruling.

Ok so by your logic, a woman who walks alone at night and gets assaulted in your opinion deserves it because she "put herself in a dangerous situation? Um... no. Hedman may have been skating up the ice, but Lupul was responsible for his OWN actions, Lupul was the one who chose to lift his elbow, and Lupul was the one who chose to hit him in the head with it. Sorry but I'm not buying your logic or excuses here.
It wasn't an elbow and in Hockey you are allowed to hit people. In real life no matter the situation you are not allowed to assault someone. It was a head shot, but it was real light brush.

The game of Ice hockey is a contact sport, while walking home is just walking home. If Hedman was playing women's ice Hockey and punishments for head-shots were many years in jail I would agree that only the assaulter is responsible.

Loops is good enough to be NHL’s poster boy, hardly a game suspension.

Maybe he'll get a slap on the wrist and ten Hail Marys.

Hits with the principle point of contact being the head weren't illegal.

If Neil did that today, he would be suspended.

I'm sure Hedman really appreciates that analogy.

If lupul gets suspended for that hit this league has officially become softer than soccer. What a joke

Assault/split second hockey hit? Where will i find a slight comparison in context there? Your comparing apples to oranges.

Look at the replay he clearly lifted his elbow which made contact with Hedman's head. It doesn't matter that it wasn't a KO hit, the minute his elbow touched his head makes it a potentially suspendable consequence from the league.

The replay clearly shows contact between Lupul's shoulder and Hedman's head.

Where are you seeing an elbow? Lupul would literally have had to have his arm extended in the air to reach high enough to catch Hedman in the head with his elbow.

Point of contact is shoulder to head:

Follow through of his elbow goes no higher than Hedman's chest and that's while he's falling down, no less:

But let's just say that there was a fictional play where Lupul's elbow made contact with his head.. that doesn't immediately mean that it's suspendable or even illegal, as you're suggesting. There are lots of situations of incidental contact involving head/elbow that may be unfortunate but aren't the fault of the hitter. If someone falls down and hits his head on another player's elbow, for example. lol

I should clarify that I do think Lupul will be suspended but for a shoulder hit to the head. Not sure where the talk of elbow is coming from.

2 for sure because he has a clean record or else it would be 4.

There was no need for Lupul to "reach up" in his hit, even lifting his skate to hit the 6' 6" Hedman. He knew what he was doing and those stills prove it. A pretty easy call to make on a play that was unnecessary and pointless as he already made a pass.

I am in agreement that the NHL has allowed the hittee to escape stupidity from the hitter but them's the rules. I hate it and everyone is allowed to admire their pass because the NHL protects stupidity. Players are allowed to turn facing the boards at the last possible second even when a forechecker is totally committed to the hit, because the NHL protects stupidity. Players are completely allowed to skate through the neutral zone with their head down because, you guessed it, the NHL protects stupid hockey players.

1 Max . Hedman looked like he sorta turned into a bit too. No serious injury to him and Lupul doesn't have a history of being a dirty player. I don't think he'll be suspended but if he does, should be no more than a single game.

it's the kind of thing where he could get nothing or could get 3 games. it's always a range and it's a bit arbitrary based on NHL priorities, etc.

I'm going to assume from the Hamilton call-up that the Leafs are expecting he gets something, and will predict one game.
