I think at 22 he will be a very good player.
1: All scouting agencies pegged him mid second round.
2: He is doing okay in college. Not "very good".
3: He played highschool league. A true measure would have been the Q.
4: He is playing against 18-22 year olds. These are not men.

Even if you like Mark Jankowski, he was definitely way off the board.

I would laugh so hard if St. Louis missed the playoffs this year, and then next year Halak got injured, Elliot falls apart, and the Blues pull a Philly and end up with a top 5 pick next year.

Ripping off Feaster backfiring would be hilarious.

I know, that's what I meant. I think a first for this year is better especially since everyone says this draft is so good. And it would suck for the Flames if the Blues miss this year, then turn it around next year.

Somewhere in the world, one of these guys named is reading HF and crying about how much we don't care about them as prospects.

1: Scouting Agencies are just one form of evidence - hit or miss
2: Tied for 4th in points on a top college team as the youngest position player on your team is good. The players tied or ahead of him in points are all at least 2 years older with most around him 3 to 4 years older.
3: Not everyone chooses to play in the Q or in Junior hockey. Oftentimes late-bloomers do not play in the Q.
4: There are many players in college hockey who are over 22 years old... On his team there are several 1989s... There's a reason CIS teams can beat Team canada world juniors - men are bigger and stronger.

I'm not saying he's going to be a star in the NHL but I think that he has a good chance to be a good player. That being said they could of drafted TT instead who will be a fantastic player.

Jay Feester is a horrible GM..

You have to think the value for Bouwmeester would have been a little more than a conditional first and two prospects that have limited NHL upside. I heard Ty Rattie's name mentioned the last few days as who they were after. Berra and Cundari according to Cory Pronman both are fringe prospects. That's a pretty steep drop. Flames could have held out and actually added a significant prospect and a pick.

Terrible trade for Calgary..

I don't see it as a huge loss for the Flames. They didn't have to take any bad contracts back and they got a 1st rounder.

A lot of the speculation that it could have been more came from fans with unrealistic expectations. Hopefully this will show Sens fans that Ottawa did as well as they could have when they traded their own secondary players.

When you shop around you choose from offers, you can't just create them. JBo has a huge cap-hit and the cap goes down next year so perhaps there just wasn't much to choose from.

Jay Bouwmeester is 29 and he's playing solid hockey. There would be no reason to take back a bad contract because he is still in his prime and will be for another 4 to 5 years.. It's not like dealing for Luongo who has a big contract late into his career, Bouwmeester has one year remaining after this year. He is a legitimate top 4 defenseman. Flames got hosed. They should have gotten a solid prospect and a pick. Not two plugs who are unlikely to contribute to an NHL team and a first that has a condition on it.

Like I said.. Terrible trade.

IMO id rather have 2-3 million of Jaybo's cap for the next 2 years and have legit prospects than be freed of Jaybo's cap hit and get nobodys in return for him. Cgy is rebuilding so they can take tht extra 2-3 million

Mike Fisher got a 1st and a 3rd, Jay got a 1st and 2 prospects. And I'd argue Fisher is a better player than Jaybo, especially at the time we traded him.

Not bad value for Jaybo imo.

2 nothing prospects.

At least a 2nd has a chance to be a good player.

+6.8mil when the cap is going down. Flames did okkkaaaaayyyyyy considering they probably wanted to get cheaper anyway. Still strange they didn't wait another day to squeeze out some more.

That being said, Brad Peltz and Emil Sandin for Cammalleri please.
