iPod Nano help

My Nano (5th gen ) just suddenly stopped working. I was listening to music. I took it out of my pocket to change the song. But then the buttons were unresponsive and nothing was on the screen. The song was still being played until I plugged the earbuds out. I have no idea why. For sure, there was a lot of battery life left. I did plug it in to re-charge it but again, nothing was appearing on the screen. Has this happened to any other Nano owners?
