Small sample size, blah blah, the guy's proven he's not a one-trick pony and still has some pretty slick skills at his age. He's done nothing but produce since he's gotten back in addition to playing a gritty game and providing leadership. Glad he's locked up for the future.
Cap hit was always fine with me. I was a little worried about the term and still kind of am but right now I don't care. He is playing fantastic! If he keeps it up the contract of his will be a steal in a few years.
The thing with Lupul is that he always contributes. Even on his off nights, he's at least still physical and does a good job along the boards. When other players on this team have off nights, they go invisible
When news of Lupul signing that extension I thought it was great then and still do today. What I think we can say is he proved that last season was no fluke and who knows how many goals/points he would have if he wasn't injured by that Phaneuf shot.
When Getzlaf and Perry are getting 8mil+, I would take Lupul's contract at $5.25 mil in a heartbeat.
Only concern that we had when Lupul signed that contract was his health. Let's hope he can stay healthy and continuously provide us with the firepower we need.
And guys like Semin getting 7 mill per 5 years, you wanna see a bad contract in a few years? Semin will go back to being useless now that he got what he was looking for. He's not a team player or he would of stayed in Washington and not sign 1 year with a division rival. Lupul is a stud on and off the ice, definitely deserving of the C if they take it from Dion one day. The whole core is locked up for years to come at reasonable contracts, good cap management to be honest.
Lupuls deal was never unreasonable... He was an AllStar PPG winger last year. He's also our best leader imo, and is just a great guy overall. Add in the fact that he's running Lupes troops, and always attempts his best to get the crowd cheering is just gravy.
His contract is a steal. Go try to sign a PPG winger from free agency.... Heck, Semin just got a 7 mil a year extension.
