I could see a trade for Miikka Kiprusoff during off season. Final year of his contract - $5,833,333 cap hit and $1,500,000 salary.

Likely for a second rounder

Haha. That's a Wang contract right there. That will happen

Lol, that really sounds like a Wang contract par excellence. I'm still liking the idea of getting Bernier, but yeah, I don't think that will happen. Nevertheless I'm definitely in favor of an UFA. Nabby's appearances should be reduced bit by bit and Poulin currently doesn't look like the one who can take over.

I'm all for re-signing Nabokov and I have a lot of faith in Poulin to be our future starting goaltender. No reason to trade for the Berniers/Bishops of the NHL. If management really believes that Poulin and Nilsson can't be starters, trade for Jonas Hiller or someone like that.

I don't have much faith in Garth landing Backstrom or Kipper so I went with resigning Nabby.

Also, Kipper has a NTC. I doubt he waves it to come to Long Island.

Older goalies fall off in a hurry. I would be very nervous bringing back Nabokov and putting all the eggs in his basket...

You are right, his clause only ran through the 2011-2012 season.

Stay away from Backstrom. We're hopefully going to re-sign him.

If we could land Backstrom, great. But Nabby is still solid and Poulin and Nilsson are both growing. I'd like to take a chance on them knowing we have a capable GM who will will be patient and diligent with both.....until Snow turns back to his old form and puts Nino and Bailey in net as a tandem next October.

I doubt we sign any of the bolded, but I would be pretty happy if we did.

we do not want Howard.

Given that list, if we're grooming two solid young goalies and potentially a third in Mikko, I'd rather stay the Nabby route or go with Thomas. {though Wang is a devout liberal and Thomas is, well, not very liberal}

Both guys put in two years, and look decent given our parent and NHL teams both look like feces on defense.

Do you guys think we look for a goalie in the draft? I think we should draft one that has some potential, having a few young goalies is a good problem to have. Competition breeds competition.

In the trade thread i posted Backstrom is 35 so he is no spring chicken either so IMHO it's a lateral move. I say keep Nabby 1 more UNLESS you are bringing in Bernier,Bishop, or Khudobin. I also stated that you can also say neither of the 3 are proven in terms of a full year of starting.

I like Nabby, and the isles can certainly do worse. But they can also do better.
I wouldn't be upset if they brought him back, but I wouldn't be excited either.

should vote for re-sign nabby AND a UFA! that's the right answer (or trade for Ryan Miller)

But even God wouldn't have much success in goal with the way this team plays. And I'm not sure God's eligible for the entry draft again.

I really don't understand (speaking of God) what miracle Goalie could come in and get wins with this current D.

Poulin really blows. No control, no glove... really all he is is a glorified back stop. He knows how to get in front of a shot. After that he needs a map to figure out what to do.

Ya, I don't see Poulin being the answer here as a #1 anytime soon. And I don't see Nabokov here long term. We need to go out and get a #1 goalie either in the free agent market or by trade.
