Journey: Steve Perry or Arnel Pineda?

Simply put, which do you view as the singer of Journey?

This really isn't close. Perry.

I saw Journey this year with Pineda and he sounded good, but he's not the 'real' singer to me.

How is this even a question?

The new guy is doing his damndest to sound like Steve Perry, and he actually does a fine job...but Steve Perry he is not.

EDIT: I shouldn't call him "the new guy" since he's been with the band for a while now.

Last year Perry gave a comment where he said he never felt like he was part of Journey--the guys in Journey said that was like the Pope saying he does not feel catholic. Arnel is a very cheap copy of Perry

Wait, seriously? You'd have to be like, 15 years old to see Pineda as the singer of Journey.

Plus, "Aaaaarnel Pineda" is a terrible psych-out

I have a strong dislike for Journey but it would be silly to minimize Steve Perry's contributions to the band by comparing him to a YouTube karaoke singer who didn't write or compose any of the songs he performs. Also Neal Schon is a mediocre overrated guitarist.

Pretty much this

But I would like to add that PErry was actually the third lead singer the band had and part of the friction between him and Schon comes from how Perry joined the band because of the record company at the time forced Perry upon the band and according to Perry, he was always viewed as the ugly step brother

Fair enough, but the ugly step brother helped them achieve a pretty impressive level of success despite not really doing anything different from a host of other bands around the same time.

He pales in comparison to even most of the heroes from the 80s. Their best years were due to Perry's voice, not Schon's guitar chops.

Schon used to be a good player, but he has been going through the motions for 20+ years now. He used to do fantastic melodic leads. Now he just plays real fast runs and ends them with a big bend every friggin' time. Just no creativity whatsoever.

No way.

I think a poster above hit the nail on the head with Schon. He was/is an amazing player, he just plays too fast now. Some of his solo work is really solid!

Also, no brainer, Steve Perry, but Arnel is as good a replacement as they were gonna get.

Come on, nothing better to do than ask this wacky question?

One isn't there without the other. Perry's pipes are among the best in the business.
