Please no Fleury. I do not want to see his name anywhere when discussing Team Canada. Guy has let in soft goals for an entire calendar year dating back to last year against Philly. Scratch him out and let Ward/Smith/Crawford battle it out for the third
goaltender spot. I still believe Luongo should be the starter. The

games i watched him play this year, he was absolutely terrific. A change of scenery will do him good and i think he can be elite again after he leaves the circus of Vancouver. Also, forget about Iginla. The guy has had a great career, but based on his play, i think it is best to look elsewhere.

Remember that the team must be well adjusted to playing on big ice. Solid skating and positionally sound players is essential. Some room should be given to role players as well, a team stacked with skill players isn't preferable, it's better to give the top 2 lines most of the ice time, even though guys like Mike Richards and Bergeron can probably play well even with limited ice. Still it's not something they're used to.

So Fleury let's in soft goals and he's off the team; Luongo let's in soft goals but he's absolutely terrific and can be elite again and should be starting for Team Canada?

No thank-you: We don't need any Rob Zamuner's or Kris Draper's on this team. That's the exact line of thinking that'll send us home without a medal.

At this point I would do this:

Hall - Crosby - Tavares
Stamkos - Toews - Nash
E.Staal - Getzlaf - Giroux
Benn - Bergeron - M.Richards
-Carter and Duchene

in no way shape or form is PK better than Dion defensively

there's a reason Dion lead NHL D in quality of comp faced and PK was near the bottom

Hall-Crosby-Stamkos (I can't think of a more dominant line, the space Hall would create for those two to do whatever they want would be scary.)

Nash-Tavares-Giroux (Another trend for a big LW creating space for Tavares and Giroux to wreak havoc.)

St.Louis-Toews-Getzlaf (A responsible line that clearly can put the puck in the net.)

M.Richards-Bergeron-Eberle/E.Staal (A shutdown line with Richards + Bergeron along with someone who always shows up for international play or a big body in Staal.)

I agree with you based on what I saw this year but I'd love to see a source for that just to see how some Justin Faulk did in Carolina.

So Luongo's performance in 2010 does not matter? He did his job when needed to win Gold for Canada. Re-watch the Slovakia-Canada game, and tell me why you think Luongo should not be one of our top three goalies. Canadians have short memories. Luongo was the reason Canada advanced to the Gold Medal Game in the first place. He stood on his head and did his job when needed. Fleury is an another story. There is a reason why Vokoun is in net right now, and Fleury is on the bench. Fleury was horrible against Philly last year and nothing changed this year against the Islanders.

Luongo has been tested on the international stage. Whenever he has been the goalie for Canada the results speak for themselves-
Gold in 2003 WC, Gold in 2004 WC, Silver in 2005 WC, Gold in 2004 World Cup of Hockey, Gold in the 2010 Olympics, and Silver in 1999 WJC. Guy has been tested when it comes to Best on Best play and has been terrific. Same can not be said for Fleury. He should not be in the discussion. Go with Luongo, Price and one of Smith/Ward/Holtby/Crawford. No to Fleury.

I don't see how you can leave Bergeron out. Two way play is very important and Canada will have enough game breakers up front.

Defensive presence will be at a premium in a short tourny, I'd be hesitant to dress Hall when a liability like Stamkos will definitely be in the top 6.

Tavares - Crosby - Stamkos
Nash - Getzlaf - Perry
Giroux - E. Staal - Carter
M. Richards - Toews - Bergeron
Couture, Hall

xxx - Weber
Keith - Seabrook
xxx - Doughty

Can either of Subban/Petro switch to their off sides? Otherwise it's players like Hamhuis, Staal or Letang because they can play the left side.

Luongo (his to lose)
Price
Ward

I'd seriously think about starting Brodeur in goal for the Olympics.

Names suggested are really not impressive.

Luongo isn't even a regular starter.
Price has been very average.
Fleury has been terrible and has lost his #1 job.
Ward has been inconsistent and hurt.
Smith was average until he moved to a defensive system in Phoenix.

Any of the guys mentioned could get hot next season, but at this point, I would rather count on Brodeur's experience once again.

I feel bad for Hall because I think Ruff may have cost him a chance at the Olympic team. He never really got a chance to show what he could do and really didn't mesh with Duchene at all. When he is on his game he is one of Canada's best forwards, but I don't think he is well suited to playing a bottom 6 role. He also isn't the type of player I'd classify as "easy to play with", so he'd need to be paired with the right kind of players to be successful.

I'd say a focus should be on guys who have played or do play together for instant chemistry...that's important for a tournament with no training camp.

Stamkos - St. Louis
Getzlaf - Perry
Crosby - Iginla
Thornton - Marleau
Richards - Carter
Bergeron - Marchand

Keith - Seabrook

Should all be considerations and should possibly play together IMO.

You should have Brodeur on the list - at least as the 3rd goalie.
