That's the kind of proposal that would be hard to turn down. I'm curious as to what Anaheim is looking to accomplish in trading Ryan. Would they want to keep the abundance of size, or are they looking to replace the already weak secondary scoring unit that's about to take another hit? I suppose size is their identity, but I wonder if they'll be placing a premium on another forward type.

On that subject, I'm curious to see what comes out of the Berglund at LW. We all know about the proven adage that size up the middle is key in the playoffs, but I'm wondering if Hitch is testing whether a speedy, dogged centers (Sobotka, Schwartz) who see the ice well, can be more effective at both ends than what we've experienced with Berglund there. Big risk playing Schwartz there, but I'm not sure we have anything to lose.

Berglund was just being taught a lesson by being the 4th line LW, that's it, he won't be on the wing long-term.

Should Armstrong go after Miller? Would he be an improvement compared to Halak?

Money wise we need to invest elsewhere first.

I might be in the minority, but even ignoring the financial/asset cost of acquiring Miller, I wouldn't want him on this team.

I'm fine with a tandem of Halak/Allen next year. I think we just have to look into improving the defense. We've got to get some toughness back there.

As for Ryan, I'm a fan but I'm not just not sure he solves anything for us. I think Tarasenko has the potential to be a Ryan type sniper. We really need that #1 center.

Unfortunately there just aren't many players out there that fill our holes.

Based on Armstrong's comments (quoted at length in the Two questions on Blues future thread) it seems the only choice he's really even looking at is selling "true value" in the future for a non-depth piece now. He ruled out depth as being helpful. He emphasized the word "true" value in the future.

So we're probably looking at something like 1st + Jaskin/Rattie as being those "true" value pieces. Maybe Schmaltz, depending on how teams value him. And this would be for a player, my guess is someone who isn't a rental but would be on the roster long term.

Who's a seller? In the West, Calgary, Colorado, probably Phoenix, Edmonton. Maybe Columbus, maybe Dallas, maybe Nashville.

Colorado and Nashville are easy rule-outs because not only are the division foes, there really aren't defensemen who fit.

Here's your universe in the West:
Giordano
Bouwmeester
Yandle
Klesla
Daley
Goligoski
Smid
Johnson
Tyutin

In the East, your universe:
Kulikov
Sekera (Regehr's a rental)
Pitkanen

Pros and cons with each.

LOL cancel all this, the Blues just acquired Jordan Leopold for draft picks.

Now with the new news that the Blues have sent Allen back to Peoria (Elliott is playing for them tonight then returning to the Blues), that means an extra roster spot is open in advance of the deadline. They're going with Halak/Elliott. Of course, they can always recall Allen and on Wednesday the roster limit is removed.

I think in the offseason is when he really makes moves and more teams are open for actual hockey trades.

Leopold for a 2nd and a 5th for 2013. If we make it to the second round this year, the 5 becomes a 4th.

Only paid a little more than Halak and is a true #1 goalie. Miller is the only proven #1 goalie that is on the market. Yes his attitude is kind of ****** but I only care about winning and maybe being on a good team will change his attitude as well. If he can hold a .911 in Buffalo he can be a .925+ goalie here facing much lower amount of shots.

my buddy just told me the Blues are rumored to be talking with L.A. I'm thinking it's gotta be around one of martinez, mitchell, Bernier or one of there centers(doubt kopitar or richards for obvious reasons) but who knows.

You hear a rumor that ranks exceptionally low in likelihood and then deduce it's for a depth defenseman (to make 9), an injured (likely for the year) defenseman or a backup goalie? Dude, April Fools Day is tomorrow.

I think Bernier could be on the move and would love to have him on the Blues. I think he will be a top 3 goalie in this league very soon. He has outplayed Quick this year big time but no matter what Bernier does he can't pass Quick on the depth chart. There is no way he resigns with the Kings so they would be smart to move him before the deadline. I think the Blues and Kings could potentially be good trading partners.

Bernier may technically be a back-up but anyone who has watched him play over the past couple years knows that he is going to be an exceptional NHL goalie once given the opportunity to start full time.

No we do not need another teams backup. If we are getting a new goaltender it better be one that is a proven starter.

I'm not saying we are going after Bernier, but he is only 24 yrs old, his positioning and rebound control are amazing. I would be pumped if we landed him.

Why would you be pumped? He's not any more proven than Halak is and everyone thought he'd be an elite goalie after his playoff run in Montreal. If the management is moving Halak they don't go out and just get another one.

Point is we need to stop getting guys or hoping guys "can be" that guy. We need ones that ARE that guy.

Anyone who would not be excited about getting Bernier has not watched the Kings play very much. I have Quick on my fantasy team and when he isn't playing i pick up Bernier for his starts. I actually prefer Bernier over Quick this year that's how good he has been. He is rarely out of position and plays very big. The only question is can he handle the full load of a starting goaltender? We don't know that, but he is for sure an upgrade over anything we have. To compare him to Halak is totally unfair. Two compeltey different styles of goaltending.
