Does he have a house and family in Calgary or something? Why else would he refuse to leave Calgary?

Yeah, he cited family reasons, plus I think his wife just had a baby.

I understand his situation, but, I really am not a fan when players refuse trades like this. It's a business, you're making great money, and you have a chance to go win a cup possibly. That's just my opinion.

He's a Finn! It's not like he's a Canadian, born and raised in Calgary. Did he marry a Canadian woman whose roots are in Calgary?

Not at the cost that Philly would ask. They can't afford to trade from the back end anyway, while the Blues aren't in the business of trading d-men either.

Not to mention he chose to become a professional athlete. Trades are a part of the job and Kipper knew that going into it. So I disagree with his standing.

Kipper's wife had a baby last week. That may be a big reason he doesn't want to move.

I'll give a guy a little leeway when it comes to new babies. In many other professions, he'd be entitled to a leave of absence from work. Also, maybe he's looking forward to ending his season a little early to spend some time with the new family.

Business is business, may end up being much ado about nothing. I thought Iginla was the piece moving out of Calgary.

Just some thoughts.

So no to something based around a 1st or one of Perron/Stewart/Oshie?

The difference between a 1st and any of those players is immense.

Cole, a 2nd, and a late pick/prospect? All day long. I don't know if I'd do the 1st.

Andy Strickland ‏@andystrickland
#stlblues Ken Hitchcock and GM Doug Armstrong held closed door meeting with team leaders for several minutes after game

Lou Korac ‏@lkorac10
Hitchcock said he met with the team leaders in a closed door meeting after the game. #stlblues

Jeremy Rutherford ‏@jprutherford
Hitch addressed the media 1 hr 17 minutes after the game ended. He met with team leaders. Repeated that buy-in is not there.

Lou Korac ‏@lkorac10
Alex Steen when I asked what was addressed afterwards: "We're not talking about that. What happens in here, stays in here." #stlblues

Not a good sign for some of the players on the team.

I think Army needs to be in there as well. Put up or shut up time for some players, even if these 2 losses were anomalies.

If we lose the next two games, could be an interesting trade deadline for us. Armstrong's not afraid to make blockbuster deals, and it seems our team needs some sort of wakeup call.

Like I said it's gonna be a fun draft. You don't buy in, you're gonna be shipped out.

I am done with trying to figure out what is wrong with this team. Honestly I think they think Army won't trade anyone from this core which is dumb. Army needs to put the fear of god into them with a big shakeup move. I mentioned a trade in the trade forum a couple of weeks ago that was agreed upon (mostly) by both teams.

To Blues:
Thornton
Vlasic

To Sharks:
Backes
Perron

McDonald-Thornton-Tarasenko
Schwartz-Berglund-Stewart
Steen-Sobotka-Oshie
Porter-Nichol-Reaves

Vlasic-Pietrangelo
Jackman-Shattenkirk
Russell-Polak

Halak
Allen

I'd do it but would want to see Steen on the top line and McDonald on the 3rd.

Ya I put those lines together kinda quickly. I just salivate at the idea of Joe and Frank together.

Also forgot the fact that Murray was just traded so I doubt Vlasic would be going anywhere.

How about Coburn, Brayden and Luke Schenn for Pietrangelo and Perron fill in the pieces around it to make it work......

JR saying that we will be meeting with DeKeyser's camp today. Repeating the thought that we are one of the 4 teams on his shortlist (STL, DET, ANA & NSH).

I've been saying the exact same thing, but the way it is playing out is changing my mind somewhat. I'd say it is 50/50 whether he ends up a Red Wing now. If he chooses someone else, then I think it will likely be Anaheim (Blues in 3rd).

Maybe the team rate him higher than I do and think he is capable of stepping straight into the top 4. I think that would probably swing things in our favour.

Agree; how does it play out next year when McDonald is gone?

IMO we still would need to address the goaltender issue. No confidence in Halak as a true #1; no confidence in Els either. Do you think Buffalo entertains a trade for Miller with us giving Halak plus a pick/picks? (don't know how the salaries balance out trade-wise). Get Miller, waive Elliott, and you're looking at ~$700k more in salary but I think confidence wise we would be in a better position.

If you make a trade like that, you had better be able to retain Thornton while having the money to keep Petro/Shatty/Berglund/Stewart

I have an unhealthy love of Miller after the stretch he pulled during the Olympics, but if I'm being honest with myself, he doesn't impress me much more than Halak.

On a separate note, as we approach the deadline, let's remember we have the same Doug Armstrong who traded our supposed franchise defenseman, Erik Johnson. He is certainly capable of huge, team shaking moves if the return is right.
