Max Talbot to the Leafs

Leafs have a pretty good PK this year, ranked 6th in the NHL. However I can't help but feel that they could still use some improvement on the 3rd and 4th lines I love Mac and Orr but they can't play every night and certainly won't see the ice for us in the playoffs.

This is where Talbot comes in he's got playoff experience he will make the PK even better then it is and most importantly he shores up the 4th line big time.

Komarov McClement Talbot would be a FANTASIC 4th line going into the playoffs and next season as well. What would it rake to make it a reality?

Not sure why this needed a separate thread, but I believe we left off at a late 2nd + Y. Weber from the Habs, so, something better than that?

Why do Hab fans always throw Yannick Weber in trade proposals?

That should give you a clear indication on how they view him as a player.

So 2nd + Prospect or roster player?

Would love a centre depth of Roy/Weiss - Kadri - McClement - Talbot going into next season.

Hopefully we could develop a #1C or Kadri develops into one

Talbot would be on McClement wing with Komarov on the other side and paired with McClement on the PK

Eh, I think that the Flyers would prefer whatever D prospect you have of that type + a 2nd.

The team has to make some calls on the cap over the summer, and probably would prefer not to take on a higher-priced vet in this abysmal season.

I'd like having McClement on the third line rather than the fourth. Put him with some good wingers and we have a great shutdown line that can contribute a bit offensively.

Kulemin - McClement - Zubrus would be an amazing shutdown line.

Rolling with

JVR - Weiss/Roy (until we can get a better centre) - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Frattin
Kulemin - McClement - Zubrus
Komarov - Talbot - McLaren/Orr

would be a great forward group to have.

The Leafs' PK has been doing just fine without him and, therefore, he is unneeded for that particular purpose.

You're also assuming two things:

1) That Talbot is even available (based entirely off of an unsubstantiated rumor),
2) That the Leafs are going to make the play-offs (purely based upon their current position in the Eastern Conference standings).

Why would the Flyers give him up if he's such a valuable player, and to a conference rival who they're trying to catch for a play-off spot no less?

Can't see it happening.

This Flyers fan says it's easy....The Flyers are having a horrible year so will be sellers which isn't usually the case. I would be open to trading lots of pieces if it makes us better next year or re-stocks assets for use next year. Example Talbot for a 2nd and a lower prospect. Philly then tries to replace Talbot by signing a UFA. They then have the 2nd as an extra asset.

What does this say about Bozak, Kulemin, Grabovski, MacArthur, Liles, and Gardiner? That's all I can think about off the top of my head, I'm sure theres more.

Well for starters, all of the above are solid NHL players that could play on any team, and after almost 6 years Weber has yet to establish himself on one. But I forgive your blatant ignorance on the subject of Leaf players seeing that you probably thought the same of Alex Steen before he was traded for Lee Slumpniak.

My opinion on these players has nothing to do with what I posted. It has to do with Leaf fans constantly throwing them into proposals. Basically what you said about Habs fans and Weber.

Probably because most Leaf fans that post proposals on the main boards are morons who have no grasp on how a hockey team is built.

Believe me, I don't defend those clowns at all.

Toronto shouldn't trade for Talbot.

Talbot is a nice player but we should keep our assets like picks/prospects as we're still in the rebuild phase (although we're quickly moving out of it).

This is not the year to start making these types of additions.

Anyways we've got Colborne putting up around a PPG in the AHL who should get some NHL exposure.
